The new rule, a campaign pledge of President Emmanuel Macron, was brought in under a law passed in July which for primary and junior schools also banishes tablets and smart watches.
High schools, which teach students aged 15 to 18, can introduce partial or total bans on electronic devices as they reopen after the summer break, though this will not be obligatory.
Proponents say the law, which has prompted vigorous debate, will reduce distraction in the classroom, combat bullying, and encourage children to be
more physically active during recess.'
Applies to both public and private schools. And aaahhhh yes, 'bullying.' Let's just take ALL phones away, that will teach 'em. Vive la France?!?!

When I was in high school they didn’t allow us to bring cell phones. All for this. People need to know how to socialize or we will turn into Idiocracy.

Support.....younger folks today have no or very little social & conflict resolution skills

It’s so the students can’t call 911 when they get raped by a Muslim

I think this is a great idea.
Need to reach your kid? Call the school.

You know the real reason is so they don't use them to set off bombs

I like the idea, but take it from someone who was in a classroom well before the advent of cell phones--there was plenty of distractions, bullying, and physical inactivity in those days too.

Pretty smart move
Kids do not need a phone or tablet at school

what a shame that we need a law to make this happen in this country as well. Parents say "well my kid needs one because of activities. For 1.00 each we could place a free public phone at every venue that hosts kids.
I wont allow my kids to access electronics when there are options to do something else. But inevitably one of their friends has one and poofff there they go. I then am forced to be the a-hole Dad.

While I would agree, what happens when all of their books are electronic? My son's school, you have to request a paper textbook for each subject and in some cases you have to purchase it...

The amount of school shootings happening more today than they did yester year so I doubt this will work in the states!
How many school shootings have happened in France in the past 20 years?

Yep, back in the days of the Nokia Bricks™ and StarTac flip phones ours got confiscated the second you had it out in class or during lunch.
Kids today wouldn’t know how to handle themselves with even our limited tech, let alone with no phones at all. I feel lost without mine (or if it’s dead) now but I still know how to hold a conversation, which cannot be said for anyone that’s seen a group of teenagers in public the last few years.
The Oasis in Ready Player One isn’t a far fetched reality for our near future

So you have a problem with this law because they added the word bullying?
