It’s a thing for a few reasons, big one being that they folded quick in WWII, which was a mix of losing so many men in WWI and getting totally played by the German logistical machine behind the blitzkreig.

They thought they had more time than they did to stop the Germans due to how logistical lines were stretched and didn’t realize how organized the Germans had gotten.

OTOH, you also had them lose in Vietnam and have DeGaulle drop France’s claim to the province of Algeria despite going hard on the revolutionaries there.

Losing to third world nations doesn’t help your reputation.

Oui oui!!

Seems Americans aren’t the only ones who have a respect for their flag.

So much for the “it’s just a piece of cloth“ crowd.

Both sides had that problem but France had control of the whole country and decided to make their stand at Dien Bien Phu.

Look at the battlefield and then get back to me as to why that was a huge mistake. Goddamn camp in a valley surrounded by mountains with artillery dug in.

The US mistakes were more policy than losing battles.

Two things sped up the surrender
1. Meth. Literally Meth. German soldiers ate it like candy and that’s how blitzkrieg worked
2. Wanting to avoid destruction of Paris

I can agree on that. But the VC were a tenacious adversary none the less.

So Macron is acting like a democrat.
If the Armed Forces in France have as much pride as those who signed the letter, who is going to punish them?

I enjoy that since 1789 France tends to completely overthrow its government every 50 years or so, if not sooner. The Fifth Republic is already overdue.

And we seriously need our Revolutionary War 2.0

Trump's biggest mistake was not forcing every single Obama appointed officer to resign. Our military agrees with the CRT horseshite.

Truth. And to be fair to France Hitler ran over everyone in Europe not named Russia and England

Sure but France had the largest Army in the world at the time and virtually ignored the warning signs and then acted way too late once the tanks started rolling.

The Germans were stuck in a narrow bottleneck when the invasion first started and could have been greatly damaged or even defeated had the French acted quicker with air power.

Not sure how "organized" they were and French reconnaissance spotted how exposed they were at the beginning but both the English and French generals ignored the information

Worst traffic jam of WWII

quote:

The plan to cross into France through the Ardennes region was a brilliant idea. Still, from a logistics point of view, it was a disaster.

It created a 250 km long traffic built up in the area, and luckily the French and British didn’t notice it. If the traffic jam were known, the course of World War II would have been different.

quote:

The German infantry, which was supposed to use a different route, came onto the same road as General von Manstein’s massive army.

The infantry and tank division convergence caused enormous confusion and chaos. The vehicles started to progress at a snail pace with a bumper to bumper traffic.

They were sitting ducks and France missed their window.
