During a Sunday segment sounding the alarm about the rise of “fake news” in the mainstream media, Fox News anchor Leland Vittert twice claimed that The Washington Post had fired a reporter over a misleading tweet that sparked the ire of President Donald Trump.

In reality, the Post did no such thing.

Vittert’s comments came during an on-air discussion with conservative radio host Jeff Katz about a handful of recent errors in reporting on the Trump administration.

“I think it’s inexcusable,” Vittert said after Katz claimed many newsrooms were acting on behalf of the so-called resistance movement with little regard for the facts. “You talk about this, and at least for one reporter it turned out to be inexcusable, he doesn’t have a job anymore, and that’s from The Washington Post.”

“He apologized, and he now has since left,” he said again later in the segment.

The Post has not done so. It issued a statement standing by Weigel’s integrity as a reporter, noting that he promptly apologized to Trump and deleted the tweet.

Vittert released an on-air correction and apology for the error after it was brought to his attention.

Did he claim that the reporter was under federal investigation? Indicted? To be arrested? No?
No harm then.

The WashPo should be fired. The whole thing, in it's entirety. How pathetic!
It is standing by Weigel's integrity?
Weigel has no integrity. Either that or he is a carelessly incompetent buffoon.

The fact you'd choose this episode to forward a narrative that Trump is wrong about Fake News would be funny if it weren't so damn sad..

One media outlet putting out erroneous info about another media outlet isn't fake news, it's just your present day journalism. Doesn't bother me in the least when those that do wrong against others end up getting wronged themselves by others.

They don't vet what they put out in their rush to be first. They are looking for the gotcha this time, the big splash and the truth is often ignored, by accident or yes on purpose.

As Trump says, there should be an avenue for repercussions of willful fake reporting of the news where personal attacks by the media are involved.

In fairness, Fox News sometimes accidentally gets it right.

Wait, so because WaPo DIDN'T show any signs of integrity like the dozens of other MSM outlets are starting to do when their reporters are busted blatantly lying, THIS is an example of fake news?

You guys need to go back to the drawing board.

'Fake News'

All media outlets have reported, at one time or the other since the story broke, that the FBI guy was "fired" because of his biased emails to his cohort he is poking.

No, he was not fired from the FBI, he was reassigned so what category of fake news does this fall in? Who's at fault here?

Has to be huffpo. The quote doesn't say he was fired as an employee of WAPO. It says according to WAPO....he was fired.

Who is Fox referring to? Let's get this part down first, then we can see how fake it is.

That is funny. I sure hope you find it amusing and don't actually think treason is on the table. (For Trump)

So then you admit that they have a better track record than MSNBC and CNN. Thanks.
