For once, it wasn’t all about Trump. Youngkin showed that you can essentially run on many of the same issues Trump did, without Trump’s personality. The message of liberty and choice when it comes to education is extremely popular. But I’m skeptical Republicans will be able to capitalize as long as people like Mitch McConnell and McCarthy are in charge.

If you don’t think Trump had a hand in this victory you are quite out of touch.

The message was anyone with an R was better than a D. They could be as moderate AF, or conservative AF as long as the R was there.

Last night was about the electorate telling the left to shove it on CRT, Jan 6, and tax and spend policy.

Candidates who tie these issues around the necks of opponents in 2022 will cruise to victory.

TM and his campaign (along with the usual assist from the MSM) tried their hardest to make it about Trump.

Hell all the talking heads on TV today can do nothing BUT try to shoehorn Trump into every conversation about last night. It is so damn sad.

Trump is the only reason Younkin was able to win. Yes he may have not come out all lovie dovie with Trump, but Trump gave the Right the plan on how to win. How to just ignore the lefts BS, and made up finger pointing. The Right learned how to fight thru the muck (currently CRT/gay agenda in schools) and come out on top....cause of how Trump handled it when it's thrown at him.

Younkin would have lost bigly if he would have been a republican that straight up rejected Trump. Him not doing that and trying to keep it neutral was smart, but doesn't mean Trump is some one to forget.

No matter what your opinion is of Trump, he changed the game and wrote the new handbook on how the Right can win. Tweak and refine it for the audience, but still the same handbook.

I won’t be convinced that a big part of this is people realizing the Dems are the main reason why Trump got bad press and they now regret tf out of their Dem vote/staying home.

Who gives a shite what the Dems say? I don't watch MSNBC, CNN, or any of that crap.

When my neighbors / friends / colleagues here in Virginia talked about this election, Trump never came up. We talked about where the candidates were on the issues. 2A for example. That's it.

We weren't "Oh, hell yeah, let's vote for that Youngkin dude cuz that's a vote for Trump"....that's bullshite.

Republicans can win if they focus on the policies, not the personalities. Dems are too lazy and are afraid to do this - they'd rather the focus be on Trump. Don't be like them.

You fellas know it can be both, right?

Youngkin won because his policies resonated with voters. He ran on Trump policies, not Trump himself.

He harnessed all the good things about Trump's message, without making it about DJT. Hell of a strategy in a purple state. Take note fellow swing state republicans.

They won't be able to capitalize as long as this boards continues to push Trump as a candidate.

The problem was NEVER about Teump's ideas. Youngkin ran with Trump's ideas and got back all the suburban white Women that Trump lost. Why do you think that is?

They'd like NOTHING better than to see Trump on the Republican ticket in '24. He'll galvanize the Left while alienating the moderates against the Right. If it happens, then the result: Another Democratic president.

PS-and most of the folks around here will be scratching their heads (and their asses) wondering, how the hell did that happen?

If you believe the OP’s mindless banter; I’ve got bridges to sell in Arizona.

This had nothing to with Trump or DeSantis.

It had everything to do with godless, two year mental midgets of the communist left.

This wasn’t in Virginia and New Jersey only last night.

Republicans striking back, took multiple School Board seats nationwide.

Funny, I didn’t see Trump or DeSantis on those ballots either.

Even adding this into any political discussion is ad hominem.

Both ways. It ceases to be a political discussion and becomes something else.

Seems like he ran on freedom and won. People are starting to realize their freedom is being taken away. Republicans need to make the school issues LGBT , CRT and porn books a main talking point . Get those mom fired up .

They have seen what Dems beget, that is all. Youngkin is NOT conservative, at least not his campaign. Conservative and Squish both "overperformed" in legislative races.

Same goes for NJ
