For some, even Blank Panther is not progressive enough

Marvel Misses Another Easy Opportunity for LGBTQ Representation With Black Panther
quote:
In Ta-Nehisi Coates, Roxane Gay, and Yona Harvey’s most recent runs on Black Panther and World of Wakanda, Ayo and Aneka—two of the Dora Milaje—are lovers who play a pivotal role in the civil uprising that occurs at a time when Wakanda’s society is on the brink of collapse. Given the amount of screen time given to the squad of warrior women in Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther, one of the biggest questions about the film has been whether it would at all incorporate any elements of Ayo’s (Florence Kasumba) sexuality, or even the idea that queer women were a part of the Dora Milaje.
quote:
Though Aneka is not Okoye, characters become remixed and reimagined all the time when they’re adapted for films. A romance between Okoye and Ayo is the sort of thing that easily could have been included in Black Panther with something as simple as a longing look and a bit of flirting kiss, but it looks like we’re going to have to wait even longer for the MCU’s films to catch up with the times.

There's an over-representation of LGBTQAIP2XYZ in the media.
Gays make up ~3% of the pop, more than 3% of the characters in entertainment are gay.
Case closed.

This is so tiring.
I bet they were really upset when The Greatest Showman didn’t push LGBTQ issues.
If you’re not promoting the most progressive social construct possible at all times, then you are a bigot and should be renounced.
So stupid. Let a story be a story. Everything doesn’t have to be a crusade for every aggrieved minority group.

definitely my first question when I heard they were making Black Panther

the comments are as to be expected. this one made me chuckle

And, more to the point, if Marvel is already making an Afrofuturist anti-colonial action epic, then the reactionaries are going to be sulking about it whether or not two queer ladies lock eyes while they’re twirling science-fiction weaponry in their winged armor.

They still haven't figured out that BP is a black nationalist?

especially for a kids-focused gear in the wheel that is the MCU
also on a side note, Marvel is so protective of these properties there is no way they'd risk pissing off the black demographics that may make this a YUGE movie, historically. the comments want to focus on "midwestern crackers" as one put it, but normal black people (Who do not accept LGBTQ persons very well) are also a risk

I'll not argue the merits of a comic book / movie.
Carry on, though

Speaking of the times, that's sexual harassment at the workplace, yo...
Look at BW, she didn't need to frick Clint to make her relationship with him interesting in Avengers...

So it's about a group of black people who embrace education, the hetero family unit, discipline, freedom, achievement, etc.
Sounds like a good movie so far.

Black people passed Prop 8 in California. Black Panther having a gay theme would go not go over well in the community

They want the LGBTQIA experience to be the center of the plot. It's not realistic. And even if they did, it wouldn't be enough for them.

I’ll watch a woke movie. I’ll probably find it annoying or maybe I won’t (get out)
But I don’t want woke movies from white people. They just ooze self hatred. Whereas a black dude’s woke movie may ooze with self pride (in addition to hating whitey)

I just want to know if black, gay, handicapable, height challenged women are well represented.
