Florida to see population boom over coming years as SALT deductions remain capped

LINK
The state and local tax (SALT) deduction is causing more Americans to move from high tax states to states with no income tax.
Florida – already the recipient of the largest number of out-of-state movers in the country – is likely to see its population boom while temporary provisions of the Tax Opens a New Window. Cuts and Jobs Act remain in effect.
According to upwardly revised population estimates from The Demographic Estimating Conference, growth in the Sunshine State will spike over the coming years.
“Between April 1, 2018 and April 1, 2024, population growth is expected to average 330,605 net new residents per year (906 per day), representing a compound growth rate of 1.53 percent over this six-year time horizon,”
“These increases are analogous to adding a city slightly larger than Orlando every year.”

Unfortunately, many (even 1 would be too many) of them are bringing their blue politics with them.
Prayers please; we Floridians are going to need them.

Texas is running into the same problem.
Previously reliable GOP Collin County is now turning purple (and Denton County will probably be next).

Hank Johnson (D) says the peninsula will break off.

Pew has run a few articles on the amount of folks leaving Illinois.
I don’t think it’s fair to assume many of these people are super blue progressives. I think they legit want lower taxes. As long as your Gillums, AOC, Abrams run they’ll vote GOP.

On a serious note, that’s insane to think about. And who wants to be around that many people??

Fortunately, some aren't. A snowbird couple live across the street from me. They are not blue progressives, but some moving into the area are.
The problem is not nearly as bad here, in a senior dominated retirement community as the major cities.

"Unfortunately", the statewide votes of Orlando and Miami residents count just as much as the older, more mature residents that live here. (Remove tongue from cheek.)

Not for long, they'll be voting in taxes very soon

Florida and Texas will be blue before we know it. It is inevitable.
It is crazy, they flee because of leftist tax policies at the state level and then vote Dem when they plant themselves in a new state.

If you are fleeing taxes, chances are you are conservative.

Absolutely. We have to have concerns there too. Some of the traditionally red states either purple already, or approaching being purple.
(Texas is also personal for my family; my son lives there. Do what you can to prevent the almost inevitable. BTW, my son is as dark red as I am.)

I share your hope. Also - those who have the means to relocate are less likely to be dependent on the government. So theres that.

30A real estate bout to skyrocket in price.

I worry about this state. Don't forget how close the Gubernatorial race was just last year.

My SO and I vote GOP so we will help you here. And her mom and stepfather also vote GOP (big Scott/DiSantis backers last election) so they are helping you there.

Texas has a constitutional amendment prohibiting one, with very strict rules if one is ever approved by the voters.
Florida also has a similar amendment.
So eventually the locusts may devour the crops but they will have to get through a lot of Roundup to do so.

Thanks to your entire family. We need all the help we can get.
No link and no documentation, but I suspect one part of the equation is that the November election month is prime snowbird season.
(MY DEFINITION OF A SNOWBIRD: A person, most of whom are retired, who has two residences, one in the south and one in the north. Most snowbirds were educated in the north, and their family other than their snowbird spouse still live in the north. Their allegiance is to the north even though they have moved their primary residence to the southern state for tax reasons. Even their favorite football teams are northern instead of adopting the southern teams where they have their official residence.)
Many sort of look down their noses at the true southerners, and wonder why we aren't more like the "northern people" where they came from. They keep trying to make us little NY/little IL/little OH/little PA/little ... .
