The FISA Warrant allows tapping of the named person but also allows the surveillance of those the named person called or received a call from. What this means is that when they targeted Carter Page the government then get two hops--i.e. Carter to someone in the Trump Campaign and from that person to another person in the Campaign.

If Carter Page talked to 50 people and they each talked to 50 people then the government could listen in on over 2,500 people under the one FISA Warrant system.

This is why when Donald Trump said he was "being bugged" he was absolutely correct he was being bugged from the Carter Page, Michael Flynn, Michael Cohen, and/or Popadopalous FISA Warrants.

It also calls into question whether other US Senators and House of Reps were also caught up in the FISA Warrant system and monitored. I strongly suspect this was the case.

Bottom line is that the FISA System needs to be eradicated so that this never happens again.

Most people have no idea about the 2 Hop Rule.

Think for example is a FISA surveillance target has talked to 200 different people in the last 18 months, and if each of those 200 people has also called or been called by 200 different people, then a two-hop request would vacuum up records relating to 40,000 people.

Now imagine if one of those numbers in the first hop belongs to a high-volume caller—like a pizza shop, an advertising company, or a hospital.

Yep, Patriot Act too.

Dangerous world we live in, death is never far away and some lunatic may sneak in and kill me or my loved ones.

I'll make peace with that 1,000 times before conceding that the power of either of these programs should be entrusted to the federal government.

History will judge us harshly for the wondeful thing we had and how we've lost it.

The made up FISA application was to cover for past political surveillance by past administration. The FISA warrants are retro active. Allowed them to research all calls and communications going back. Judge Collyer had already exposed the fact that FBI had Fusion GPS doing unfettered FISA searches.

Patriot Act is a good tool when used in an ethical way.

But any act like that should have an automatic termination clause when it is used incorrectly the FIRST time. No legislation. No votes. Gone.

Abuses to this and the FISA process should wake anyone up about their continued “cmon man... that will never happen here” attitude.

Blue Dog just hit on the most important part, and its why Barr keeps saying "where did it all start". He knows the FISA was a counter intel warrant which allows retroactive spying. They did not need the warrant to spy....they needed it to cover up the illegal spying they were already doing because Mike Rogers investigation info was given to the FISA court which initiated the scathing memo from the court on the volume of illegal queries going on.

If this thing is not stopped now, within 30 years there will be no history of these events.

Just like Soviet era photographs where people keep disappearing from the current images = 'nothing to see here - nothing happened - trust the government - we feed you."

/\ AMEN /\ bro

I was all in on the Patriot Act when it was proposed = because I could never CONCEIVE in my mind that this kind of treasonous, seditious, amoral activity could happen in MY COUNTRY - this just never occurred to me - it was the equivalent of a perpetual motion machine in my mind = impossible.

NOW, I see that there is no limit to the moral degradation of half of the USA - we have allowed our national integrity to be tragically weakened, if not destroyed, by the DEMOCRAT party ideology - and that includes some GOPers too.

You are confusing the Patriot Act regarding phone meta data on terrorist networks and a FISA warrant.

But it appears this is the new right wing talking point to salvage something after all the conspiracy theories got destroyed by the IG report.

You have reading comprehension issues if you think the IG report cleared anything.

Seriously, he agrees. And it was spying, and needs to end, and those who did it are disciplined! Lotta ands there.

If you can honestly sit through yesterday's hearing and not be absolutely disgusted with what our FBI did, I don't know what to tell you. Watching the Democrats deflect should be abhorrent to anyone who believes in the Constitution.
