No.

Bolsonaro was a statist throughout his career. If you're celebrating privatization and deregulation of their economy, you're celebrating Guedes.

Who said I'm quoting the President? No one on this board has ever referred to Brasil as a shithole?

It's amazing how shallow some of the takes are, isn't it? The corruption of the PT and Temer's inability to jump start the economy have far more to do with Bolsonaro's election than Trump.

But let them have their silly takes on a country whose politics they actually care very little about.

Sounds like you don't know what you are talking about. Guedes, who I've been pumping up all over this thread, is Bolsonaro's Minister of Economy. Quite the opposite. I welcome the change.

Thanks for coming out.

It's a typo.

No one notable enough for it to be common knowledge. Nice deflection.

Deflecting from what? And your "quip" about my knowledge of geography was what?

The fact that you're relating this to SEC football tells me all I need to know.

Boomed the frick out of me? Your assertion was I don't like Bolsonaro. How did your "boom" of an analogy support that assertion?

You're trying too hard, kid.

It was accurate. I imagine Brazil is way nicer than Puerto Rico though.

Considering minha mãe é brasileira, I'm not sure how to take that one.

I'll offer you some friendly advice, though--Your gringo wallet is probably less likely to get stolen in Isla Verde than in Rio.

Socialism is such a fundamentally flawed belief system. It's unfortunate that it takes years and the destruction of a country's economic base before people realize they are being duped.

Who downvotes this?

I'd love to hear one of these people try and explain why socialism works.

Socialist lunatics here in the US are defending the Bolivian guy who just resigned and are calling it a coup.

Just to catch you up to speed on what happened in Bolivia.

Their current president (Morales) is already inherently illegitimate. Bolivia had put term limits in place for President and this guy reached the max number of terms and then decided he still wanted to run. He had a kangaroo court of his own appointees "allow" it because reasons.

This past election in the first stage you win by either getting 50%+ of the vote or by winning with a 10% margin over the runner up.

With 83% of the vote counted the Morales guy was at 43% and the 2nd place guy at 36% (7% differential).

For no real particular reason they then FROZE the counting of all votes nationwide and Morales declared himself the winner.

Of course a few days later after all the remaining votes had been counted in secret, the final had come out to 10.5%, wow just made it.

Venezuela was held up as why socialism works by certain Bernie Sanders types until it didn’t work; and now that the nation is fricked beyond belief they say it’s not real socialism?

Anything to avoid admitting the ideology is fundamentally flawed and destined to lead to economic ruin.
