The Department of Justice filed a motion on Monday opposing the release of the affidavit underlying the FBI's search warrant for former President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago home.

"If disclosed, the affidavit would serve as a roadmap to the government’s ongoing investigation, providing specific details about its direction and likely course, in a manner that is highly likely to compromise future investigative steps," the DOJ wrote.

"The fact that this investigation implicates highly classified materials further underscores the need to protect the integrity of the investigation and exacerbates the potential for harm if information is disclosed to the public prematurely or improperly."

I knew it!

Now we will have endless leaks speculating about what they were after.

Nothing but a political hit job.

No surprise here. Given the sensitivity of this nature there is no other options for the DOJ unless they truly bomb their investigation.

They thought Trump would try and block the release of warrant and affidavit. Now they're trying desperately to cover their tracks because they have jack shite.

I’ve said it since day 1, I don’t care about seeing the warrant, I want to see the affidavit!

The affidavit will tell you everything about this political hit job…just like the fisa abuse

The most transparent administration in history.

We can only hope Republicans take control and use the same playbook. Mitch and Kevin also need to GTFO

It didn't take the FBI long to use that "attack" on the Cincinnati field office as a citation for keeping the evidence sealed. What a convenient coincidence that turned out to be.

And just like that, we all now know there was no reason for the raid and this was a huge, political, mistake.

If this material is so classified that they can't even release an affidavit about it, they're definitely not going to be taking this to a public trial.

It’s taking longer to make up their story that they realized or whatever they thought they had wasn’t there.

So they are admitting this isn't just about classified documents. You either have something you shouldn't and it's a crime (their argument) or you don't. This was a fishing expedition.

Huh. How very fortunate for them that someone attacked that office just at the right time for this.

Who could have possibly predicted such a thing?
