It is to be used as a means to share images with friends and family.

Anyone that uses it for more than that is an idiot.

Dear Deep State,

Enjoy harvesting my pictures from my visit to the world's largest ball of yarn.

Facebook is the place where people join up and knowingly & unknowingly give up all privacy and allow a corporation to mine their personal information and sell it to other corporations... while these same people complain to each other on Facebook about the government invading their privacy.

Seems like an interesting, yet stupid way of looking at life

X service is for "insert whatever I use it for and disregard all reality"

Facebook is an advertising agency that allows you to share photos on. Even those photos have metadata that can be harvested and used in some sort of way.

To think otherwise is woefully naive.

So much about you and your habits can be gleaned from the pictures you share.

I use it for easy photo sharing.

But it is also quite useful for businesses. It is the best way for me to keep up with my favorite breweries, restaurants, shops, etc. Way more convenient than e-mail newsletters.

Also quite useful for planning events.

Right?

Has Trump not demonstrated how powerful and useful social media can be?

That is where I start staying away. I do not engage in conversations and plan events.

Sure they can mine information from pictures, however that will be true for all picture services. I try to preach to the youth in the world the evils of social media and what you say there will follow you through life.

You are VASTLY undereestimating the amount of information you provide with your photos.

Deleted my account...or at least stopped giving them more pictures. I just don’t like supporting companies like that

My main use for it has been to keep in touch with all my ROTC/military buddies over the years who I only see in person once in a blue moon. Now of course I use it also to post family pictures and stuff for extended family we rarely see in person.

Oh, and to talk sports. Did one of those word cloud thingies awhile back that shows what phrases you most often use for your statuses. "BEAT THE HELL OUTTA...." and "GO SPURS GO" by a country mile

Yes, post pictures.

Do not engage in conversations on life events. Many of my friends use it as an open forum to bitch and complain about life events. Many have said things they regretted.

Others want to share every waking moment of their life.

That is wrong thinking with youth, as they cannot truly grasp that. The creation of their digital footprint is on par with the grades they get in school. They need to fear and respect social media, not just be smart with it. Think about how dumb we all were in our teen years and imagine that record followed us forever.

I can put this another way for all of you here on the evils of social media with our youth
