Per The Hill

Amazed it took this long.

quote:

“Facebook has made billions of dollars selling advertisements targeted to its customers, and in this instance made millions selling advertisements to political campaigns that developed those very ads on the back of their customers’ own stolen personal information,” Richard Fields, one of the attorneys for the defendants, said in a statement. “That’s unacceptable, and they must be held accountable.”

What is the estimated payout that is normal for no damages whatsoever? Gonna be a huge payout.

They will settle and the attorneys will get 10 million dollars and each FB user will receive $20.16 if they do not opt out of the settlement and complete the registration form.

When did this happen?

I thought they gave the data for free to the Obama administration.

No damages? Being information raped and making money for doin' the rapin' = no damages?? How do you sleep at night?
Every person that used Facebook should get at least a million dollars.

If you honestly think that the American Trial Lawyer Assn is not one of the most powerful factions of the Democrat Party - you're not paying attention.

This is a way for the Democrats to conduct discovery on their political opponents.

I agree with earlier posters that the attys end up with millions (in the 8-9 figure million range), and the Facebook users end up with $15.00 if they sign up for their $15.00 when the case is settled.

There were people on HERE predicting a class action lawsuit, because it’s, predictable. Don’t expect much, and the only ones who may benefit will be the lawyers.

Richard Fields, the co-lead counsel on the lawsuit in the US, told The Sun that it could result in Facebook having to foot a massive bill. "The Plaintiffs as proposed representatives of the class are seeking minimum statutory damages of $1,000 per person or $71 billion based on information released by Facebook about the number of affected users," he said.

Technically speaking, shouldn't some of this blame be foisted on the friends who used the app and thereby exposed the info of their friends?

And how is Cambridge Analytica liable? They made an app that was apparently approved by Facebook.
