I've already laid out my reasons in another post for why I believe COVID19 may be a genetically altered strain of a naturally occurring Coronavirus.....I'm still leaning that way.

that’s because Coronaviruses (plural) are naturally occurring (the common cold is a Coronavirus) and every single one of them that has affected humans has been genetically altered in order to jump from species to species

Too bad genetic tracing renders this theory virtually impossible. We know, with as reasonable a degree of certainty as you can have in genetics, that this naturally occurred and was not made in a lab.

You say that the Covid-19 bug was not the result of a lab experiment so:
Let's see if I have gotten this right:
1. A Fruit Bat was infected with Aids by consuming human saliva on a piece of fruit dropped by a HIV Positive Chinaman.
2. The Bat died of HIV and it's body was consumed by a Civet.
3. A Pangolin became road kill and before any Chinaman found the Pangolin carcass and had it for dinner, it was partially eaten by the Civit.
4. Ultimately a passing Chinaman discovered the dead Pangolin. Upon discovering the Civit scavenging the Pangolin carcass, he captured the unwary Civit and sold it to a local supplier for the Whuhan wet market. (He also harvested the Pangolin scales for medicinal purposes and the carcass for Pangolin soup.)
5. All of the above occurred in a location 500 miles away from Wuhan where this species of Bats reside, and during the time of year when the bats are hibernating.
6. The live Civit was sold in the Wuhan wet market and the individual butchering the animal proceeded to eat the choicest internal organ tidbits raw thereby becoming Victim #!.

I’d be lying if I said I was doing well but I’m getting by. I’m actually an infectious diseases physician in a major urban academic center so it’s pretty crazy right now
This weekend is my first full weekend off in 6 weeks and prior to today I think I worked 36 of the previous 40 days.

These types of folks are already set on a conspiracy theory. You wont be able to change their mind even with facts. They cant seem to get a grip on the fact that viruses evolve rapidly, and can jump species relatively easily especially in ideal conditions of a wet market. Hell we see if every few years with corona, and influenza.
But never mind that, it had to have been the release of one of the weakest bio weapons ever made. You are the ignorant one for thinking this virus could occur naturally

Damn man. Hang in there. This is your thing but still this all seems pretty wild. I find it amazing how different situations are for different physicians I know. Some are bored as hell (surgeons with no emergencies), orthos, etc. while others are in the thick of things non stop.
