It is absolutely perceived. You only see ESPN as liberal because you are further to the right than they are. Some may consider ESPN to be conservative, especially in years past. ESPN has moved toward the left recently, sure, but that move has put them closer to center rather than further from it, IMO. You are free to disagree. Just understand that people disagree because we all perceive things differently.

Oh, so it's cool to say a bunch of ignorant, racist shite as long as you space it out. Gotcha.
Two is "a bunch"? Are you telling me you haven't said more than two ignorant and/or racist things in the last decade? Also, I don't see how either of Hill's statements are "racist", anyway. The first was a stupid Hitler joke, as Hitler jokes tend to be. As for her Trump comments, are you really claiming that calling someone else racist betrays ones own racism?

Look, I'm not trying to defend any individual for saying ignorant or racist shite. I will only defend their right to say it. And I will defend his/her employer's right to do as they wish with that person's employment status.

But this thread isn't about that. This thread is about the supposed liberal bias at ESPN, and their supposedly inconsistent treatment of employees based on their political leanings. Whatever you believe ESPN's leadership's actual thought processes to be, the company's statements have been very clear about their public stance. That is, they don't like "controversial" political statements from anyone on their payroll. They would like to remain as apolitical as possible. Of course, politics is pervasive in everything these days, so that's not possible, and IMO ESPN does a decent job staying centered.

Can any of you really make a case that ESPN is as far to the left as the rest of "mainstream media"? I just don't see it. Maybe I don't watch enough ESPN. Or maybe I'm just not so far to one side or the other that everything else must lean away from me.

And I don't even like ESPN. I mostly agree with Cohn. They've been overpaying for everything in an effort to monopolize sports, creating a bubble, driving up everyone's cable bills whether they watch sports or not, and just generally being the head dicks in a market overrun with dicks.

Also I find it hilarious that you guys are bringing up a time that ESPN suspended Hill while trying to argue that they let her "slide" because she's a liberal.

His comment wasn't even racist. It was fact.

McNabb was sucking dick at the time. Cost me a lot of fantasy football games.

They're bringing up the time she was suspended because the argument from liberals is that Schilling was fired because he was a repeat offender. Well guess what Hill, who still has a job, is now...

The hypocrisy and double standards illustrated by ESPN's treatment of Curt Schilling and Mike Ditka are the problem, not the fact that Hill is trashing the president. ESPN deserves all the criticism and backlash it's going to get because of it.

To be fair, they warned Curt over and over again to stop and he just wouldn't stop talking politics. He was ultimately asking to be fired. Now if Jemele continues to talk politics after being warned, then she is deserving of the same fate.

I know why they are bringing it up. It just doesn't make any damned sense.

1. Bringing up that incident is counter to the conservative argument that they let liberal employees slide

2. There is a very clear difference between the behavior of Hill and Schilling. At least, from an honest and logical perspective on the part of management. If you can't see the difference, I don't think I can help you.

Why don't you spell it out for us?

I just read this whole thread and honestly didn't see a very clear difference.

I just said I don't think I can help you.

One person makes a very stupid (but not political) joke and gets suspended. Nine years later same person makes a controversial political statement and gets a warning.

Other person makes controversial political statement and gets a warning. Months later same person makes another controversial political statement and gets a warning. Months later same person repeats error and gets let go.

Same thing, right?

You said yourself these people represent their employer, no matter where and how they say things. Let's not act like Hill went 9 years between incidents.

She just made the police "slave patrol" comment like a month ago. She called Sammy Sosa racist for trying to be white. She said Kentucky basketball fans would be fine with Charles Manson as coach. She's constantly getting into twitter bitchfests. Now she called Trump and half of America white supremacists.

Schilling is an idiot, but even Max Bretos got suspended a month for using "chink in the armor" in an innocent question about Jeremy Lin. And his wife is Asian.

I honestly think most folks sticking up for her don't realize how openly racist she actually is. They seem to be flocking to her because they hate Trump.

What I find most interesting though is that her absolutely awful ratings should have had her fired before this mess happened. I wonder what the thoughts are at ESPN on that. Surely they aren't going to float such a low performing show forever.

To be even more fair, Schilling was being asked about his views in interviews. He wasn't on his own ESPN show spouting his politics. If you really want to get fair, let's talk about the April directive from ESPN, essentially telling their talent that it's ok, even encouraged to delve into politics. Schiiling was fired, Ditka was shelved, and others were warned, but now people like Hill are doing precisely what they were doing and it's essentially ok. She got no warning for talking politics. She was simply told it was inappropriate to call the president a white supremacist.

What a shock from liberal ESPN. Can't be allowing Evil Ol' Whitey to talk out of turn. quote: Last night Outkick broke the news that Linda Cohn, one of the most respected women to ever work at ESPN and the person who has hosted more SportsCenters over the past 25 years than any other current employee, was called and told by ESPN president John Skipper not to come to work after she went on the radio in New York City and said as follows: “They definitely overpaid for many of these products, whether it’s the NBA or starting up networks like the Pac-12 Network and SEC Network,” she said on WABC’s “Bernie and Sid Show.” “It’s well documented … They [also] did not see that they would lose all these subscribers [to competitors like Netflix.] But it was more than just that. Politics played a part, as did the network’s move away from strictly covering sports. I felt that the old school viewers were put in a corner and not appreciated with all these other changes. And they forgot their core. You can never forget your core and be grateful for your core group.” ESPN Suspended Linda Cohn, Let Jemele Hill Slide

Y'all can stop with, "she was canned for calling out ESPN's poor business decisions". That was the convenient part of her interview that allowed ESPN to suspend the woman. I can guarantee ya if she leaves out the political part of her interview she probably gets called into the boss's office and told to be careful with the corporate criticism.

This is further proof of just how deep the rot of progressivism truly is. I don't know how much time we have left before this country plunges into the abyss of progressive psychosis but we're definitely on our collective toes teetering on the edge. God help us.
