Sir Elton John has come to the defense of a heterosexual actor who portrays the legendary musician in the upcoming film "Rocketman," a forthcoming biopic based on John's life.

Actor Taron Egerton, a straight man who portrays John in the film, has been criticized by the LGBT community for playing the role of a gay music icon. Critics say Egerton should have turned down the role and allowed a gay man to portray John instead.

Speaking to The Sun UK after "Rocketman" premiered at the Cannes Film Festival on Thursday, John made it clear he vehemently disagrees with Egerton's critics.

"That's all bulls**t, I'm sorry," he told the newspaper about the criticism.

"If people don't like it, review-wise, or it doesn't make one dollar, it's the movie I wanted to make and that's all that counts. I can look back and say, 'You know what, I love it. I can live with it,'" he explained.

John also praised Egerton's performance.

"I was very emotional just now," he said. "The movie floored me. But I'm very high. Taron is beyond belief. It's like watching me. It's quite extraordinary, he's so me-like. He's a megastar. He was schooled by George Martin's son Giles and he's done the most amazing job. I wanted it to be a movie where the actor sang — and he sings."

The young actor addressed the criticism in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter earlier this month.

"I have spoken to gay people for whom it's not a problem, and I've spoken to gay people for whom it is a problem," he said.

"But for my part, I'm an actor, and I did not get into acting to just play people like me. You have to draw the line somewhere, and I don't want to live in a world where straight people play straight people and gay people play gay people," Egerton explained.

Good for him. Acting is acting.

The whole thing where people want shite like, "gay has to play gay", disabled has to play disabled yadda yadda yadda is actually a blinding insult to person being portrayed.

I mean really? No matter what one personally thinks of Elton John's work, if you look at his life's work and think to yourself, "the most important thing about him is that he's gay", you've got a mental disease.

Elton wanted a dude who could actually act LIKE ELTON and actually sing. But these morons want to make sure the dude also takes it up the arse?

I'm sorry. If I go see a bio-pic, I'm not thinking, "gee, I sure hope they show me how he fricked".

Of course, they would have no problem whatsoever with a gay person playing a straight role. That's probably happened 500 times. Rock Hudson made a fortune playing a heterosexual male. Should anybody be upset when that happens?

Nobody can whine like gays, SJW's, and most other minorities. One more reason why Trump will be President until 2025.

If they put some pasty white boy playing Jackie Robinson, then I see a problem.

A straight guy playing a gay guy? Big f-ing deal. What if all the gay actors sucked at playing Elton John? Then what, make a crappy movie just to appease the gays? This whiny BS is out of control.

I bet these same people had no problem with Neil Patrick Harris playing a womanizer on How I Met Your Mother.

I guess they hate it when gays play straight roles and blacks play white roles and laffy taffy plays tootsie rolls.

What the frick people. You wonder why people think your "community" is a ridiculous cult.

I can’t believe they let Patrick Swayze star in Ghost before his actual death.

Gay folks don't like a heterosexual actor's portrayal of a gay man? I thought that's why we called it acting.

Why?

Alexander Hamilton wasn't black.

Clint Eastwood hasn't really killed people in real life. It's acting. It's a profession. You play the part. You don't have to be the part.

Our society really fricking sucks.

But I know it’s probably just a few dimwits that think this. Our society actually sucks for giving these fricking ****s attention.

I know and have befriended a few gay males. Not as much on gay females, so I can't speak for them (or I shouldn't try to speak for the gay males for that matter). Transgender? no experience there either. However, damn near every single gay male I've interacted with have been NAILS on politics and the role of society. Just saying, guys like Elton John and Morrissey, not to mention Brandon Straka have all exemplified the non-victim status that conservatives LOVE! No identity politics here. Rainbows for everyone!
