Let's see if they keep their word in 2020 after Donald Trump wins the popular vote!

Connecticut To Give Its Electoral College Votes To National Popular Vote Victor

quote:

Connecticut’s legislature has passed a bill that would give the state’s Electoral College votes to the presidential candidate who wins the popular vote nationally.

quote:

Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy (D) has promised to sign the legislation committing his state to the interstate agreement. Once he does so, the compact will have 172 electoral votes. California, Hawaii, Illinois, Massachusetts, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington and the District of Columbia have already signed the accord.

Wait, so their states don’t matter at all then?

That is retarded.

Is this really binding for 2020 for these respective states?

How the hell have I not heard about this, if so? It's freaking insane.

Talk about an incentive of giving blue state Republicans in states like California and New York who normally stay home a reason to vote.

The backstory on this is rather fascinating (and disturbing).

The guy who came up with this idea was the guy who brought the lottery scratch-off system to pretty much every state. A podcast I sometimes listen to called Every Little Thing had this guy on.

Way to give up your political power. You are guaranteeing that a presidential candidate will never fricking enter your state.

The inability of a good number of modern day democrats to see past the nose on their face is truly something to behold.

This seems like a risk for democrats. Those are all democrat states . If a republican wins the popular vote then they would win easily. A lot of republican voters in those states don’t even vote because they know it means nothing. Now they have a reason to vote .

Trump needs to get something passed to keep illegals from voting and he would win by historical numbers on 2020 .

Would love to see an individual sue their state over this. Would make for an interesting legal case.

No. It only triggers if states with EC totaling over 270 agree to it.

The compact requires its members to cast their Electoral College ballots for the presidential candidate who wins the national popular vote. The agreement goes into effect once states representing at least 270 electoral votes — the number needed for a candidate to win the presidency — signs the compact.

It still needs states that add up to 100 more electoral votes to agree but I don't see how this could be legal.

What is the legal provision that guides this?

So it requires enough support to where the total of all those states would equal 270?

All have or have recently had GOP governors, proving that the GOP can show up and be successful in those states.

Talk about a risk.
