They definitely aren't perfect and the mining of materials for the batteries is just awful. They come from parts of the world where life is cheap and corruption ensures regulations aren't followed.
The best thing everyone could do if they actually care about future generations and the world we will leave them, is to cut back on eating meat, specifically cows and pigs. I am not saying go vegan, calm down. But if more people only ate those meats 2-3 times a week, rather than every day, measurable changes could be achieved. Just a little suggestion

frick that shite. Just ate 2 juicy grilled burgers. Have 2 TBones lined up for Thu and Ribeyes on Fri. Likely go Porterhouse on Sat and burgers again on Sun.

How many bugs did you eat today?

DOT has strict regulations on OTR trucks. If an electric tractor outweighs a conventional tractor by around 10,000 lbs that is 10,000 lbs less that a trailer can be loaded. That means more trucks on the road meaning even more electricity will be needed.
Anyone think that out?

Rumors I’ve heard is the load difference is ~5k for the Tesla semi. Idk if BEV is ever going to be worth a shite for OTR. I do think hybrids could dominate that sector with the right development. The BEV trucks will be local logistics and operate in the 100 air miles exemption routes and probably not much beyond that.

I would argue OTR roads are much better built than local roads. So operating closer to and in cities will likely destroy those faster due to weight. Its going to happen already with heavier electric cars.

I wasn’t talking about the roads but the actual use case of the BEV truck.

ICE at steady highway speed are pretty efficient and with charging, load capacity and all a BEV truck will always be at a disadvantage.

But on a local route with frequent stops and lots of idling, limited range and even load capacity needed and being able to return to a yard to recharge overnight, that’s a compelling use case.

Which road doesn’t really matter. As you pointed out DOT has weight limits and those aren’t changing.

Don’t even get into the mining aspects of lithium and rare earths. Coal is much cleaner.

Big arse heavy trucks and SUVs have been around for decades. I've never seen or heard a single person ever complain about the toxic tire particles they put out.

Didn't read the article and haven't researched the issue, but my guess is one of the assumptions in the analysis is that people replacing say Civics with EVs, not F250s.

So whatever tire degradation is in play, it is being exacerbated by EVs.

Environmentalists pushed for shutting down open stip mining in Pa. Putting limits for environmental impact for coal mining and producers in the US.

Now those same concerned peoples are all in for strip mining ores for evs.

The whole push for EVs is built around surface level thinking. The moment a person does a little research, it becomes clear that there is no free lunch.

This too shall pass.

The whole EV push was yet another example of do-gooderism and crony capitalism resulting in a redistribution of wealth from the people to corporations and government affiliates. It’ll happen again and again.

And over the years, SUVs have replaced sedans in droves, so my point still stands.

No one ever cared about the shift to heavier vehicles, not one iota. SUVs will still be heavier, generally speaking, than most EVs, so SUVs would still be a bigger problem, but... crickets. Only an issue if it's an EV.

It should be terribly easy to see right through the nonsense here

The climate changers objection to gas powered cars is not the release of toxic chemicals. It is the release of CO2. CO2 is not toxic.
