Not the Bee

With eggs topping $8 a dozen in some cities, the kitchen staple has become a clandestine commodity — smuggled across the southern border for shoppers hoping to save on soaring prices, Customs and Border Protection officials told The Post.

There's been an astounding 108% increase in eggs confiscated at ports of entry in the last four months, CBP told the Border Report.

Customs officers have seen rising cases "in the last week or so where the eggs were not declared and then discovered during an inspection," CBP spokesman Roger Maier told the Post Thursday.

The simulation is officially broken.

Fun bit about my local area. A dozen eggs aren't $8, but $5 something. The ironic part is that the cost is less per egg for a dozen than for 18 (which is $8 something)

Ah, so the same 'argument' as say gasoline prices. All just due to evil 'corporate greed.' Thats it regarding eggs, just egg conglomerates upping the price of the product to make more money. Brilliant! Guessing you have antifa clothing as part of your wardrobe.

Just checked my local shop. For store brand "Large" eggs, they are right at $5 for a dozen. If you go for name brand eggs, they range from $5.50 to $6 a dozen.

It is supposedly because a bird flu is killing up to 90% of chickens it infects. And when bird flu hits a farm, FDA requires farmers to kill their healthy flock to prevent spread.

I don’t understand why more folks don’t raise chickens. I can’t remember the last time I’ve had to purchase eggs from the store. Up until this point we’ve just used them for eggs but with prices rising we added a rooster this year and will process the young ones when they get to the right age

Truly chickens are now laying golden eggs. We live in an upside-down world.

And every single corporation is in sync in every industry, yeah, it's just a corporate greed conspiracy why the dollar is inflating so quickly.

The cdc issued warnings on this. Can spread salmonella.

Really cdc? No shite? Chickens have salmonella?

Not sure if the cdc swayed people or not but that agency is a colossal waste of money

Reminds me of this sign someone posted a few days ago for pastries:

30 for a half dozen, 65 for a dozen.

So why wasn't this so when Trump was president and eggs were like 2 bucks a dozen?

Egg producing chickens have been hit with bird flu that has killed a ton of them, but chicken raised for meat hasn’t been affected. This is why chicken hasn’t skyrocketed but eggs have.

I’m sure there’s some opportunistic price increase in there, but there are some fundamentals that support the egg prices going up.

A Biden voter said,"Well, it does cost more to ship 18 eggs than it does 12 eggs".

That’s another good thing with having chickens at home, so long as you don’t wash the eggs they have like a three or four month shelf life if kept in the fridge, one month if on the countertop
