Arguing with a liberal co-worker who keeps insisting that California should have 190+ electoral votes. Showed me a clip where some dipshit states the same thing from CNN.

Where are they getting this from? There are 538 electoral votes cast. Take out a 100 for the 2 per state and you have 438. California has roughly 39 million citizens of the total 319 million in the US. That is 12.3 percent times 438 which is 53.5 votes. So, 53.5 plus the 2 is 55.5 votes. They get 55 right. So where the hell are they pulling this damn number from?

Just tell her to go frick herself. Then you don't need to argue anymore. Your life will be better if she refuses to speak to you.

Well there's the problem. You don't think this co-worker actually came up with the idea himself do you?

Stopped right there. They most likely arrived at their conclusion via what is known as "common core math".

Why bother.

They think their opinion matters 3x's more than everyone else's.

It's the liberal mindset.

When California gets 190+ Congressional seats they will have 190+ electoral votes.

Is she claiming they are so stupid they have less than 1/3 of the Congressional representation they deserve?

Wyoming gets 3 electoral college votes, the lowest number by law allowed. The state of Wyoming had 586k people. Which breaks down to an EC vote for every 195k people. That is the basis of the number used.

California has 55 EC votes for 39 million people. Which means it gets an electoral college votes for every 709k citizens vote. Why should the votes of wyoming matter more than California?

39m/195k gets you to 199 electoral college votes.

The idiot took South Dakota or some small state with a very low population and divided it by the fact they have 3 EV then tried to use that number to equate the fact California at the same breakdown would have 190 EV. It was a very misleading and disingenuous argument, but one which uneducated people would jump on to use. Just smile at the idiots and chuckle and enjoy the next 4 to 8 years of melting.

The amount of electoral votes are by the total number of House of Representatives districts and Senators combined.

There are 53 California districts and 2 senators so that equals 55 electoral votes.

Each state only has 2 senators
