In one case, staff members were ordered to delete emails about a student’s records that were being audited, a draft summary of the audit released by the state on Sunday said.

quote:

Last school year, at one school in the East Baton Rouge Parish School System, there were 29 students in the graduating class who had problems with their academic records.

As many as six students in the 2013 class of Glen Oaks High School should not have been allowed to graduate. Another 11 students were given the wrong type of diploma, potentially making them eligible for state scholarship money they otherwise wouldn’t have been eligible for. The other students’ records had inaccurate credits or grades recorded.

quote:

In total, White said the department reviewed records for 362 students. A total of 25 percent of those records had “major errors,” the audit found.

The problems included students who were awarded credits in the state’s transcript system that were different from what was recorded by the school, as well as students who had different grades recorded in the state system. White said that in all of those cases, the grades were higher in the state system than they were at the district level.

I am willing to bet federal dollars coming into the school has to do with graduation rate.

Certainly a black eye for the EBR School system, and coming at a time when SG area people are pushing to break out.

I suspect that you are correct.....the adjustments almost all appear to have been "upward". Some of the kids whose grades were changed are enrolled in college now. I'm curious if they were awarded scholarship money.

One elected official claimed that St George caused all of this. I'm sure that Bodi White was changing those grades himself.

Probably coincidental.

That reminds me.....Anyone remember the grade fixing/changing scandal at Southern University not long ago?

One can argue that EBR students are being well prepared for the "college experience".

I doubt anyone goes to jail over this. Hell, I doubt anyone even loses their job over this, which is exactly what is wrong with the EBRPSS. They can take their new ratings and claims of improvements and stick them straight up their arse.

How often are audits like this done?

State politicians are really gunning hard for this St George thing.

Hopefully some good will come out of this and EBRSS will have some accountability.

Yes, let's start blaming Bodi White. He probably rigged the grades himself to make the EBR Parish administrators look bad.

I be the entire city of Central was in on it.

Well, parents of Baton Rouge should be happy......if your kids are real winners who skip school and never spends time on their lessons, you can always get their grades changed.

What an idiotic, useless post from someone who doesn't even live in Louisiana.

ETA: Especially when the school system in his city does this: LINK

Ringleader in Memphis teacher test-taking scandal sentenced to 7 years in prison

Over the course of 15 years or more, the former assistant principal and guidance counselor who was sentenced Monday to seven years in prison made up to $200,000 by offering struggling teachers hope for a price.

“He’d always say it costs to be ignorant,” said Devin Rutherford, who acknowledged he was paid “a couple hundred bucks” around the year 2004 to take two or three tests for other teachers at Sherwood Middle School.

Federal prosecutors in a widening teacher test-taking scam said Friday they have entered into diversion agreements with 16 defendants, including at least a half-dozen former Memphis high school football or basketball coaches.

Can't wait for a reporter to ask Taylor if he thinks he owes an apology to St George for his accusations he made back in January.

I won't expect any real change or accountability from EBR public schools.

In fact they'll probably continue to deny and downplay this. Their predictable response is within the link I provided.

And what about the accountability in your Memphis school system. Read the links I provided above.

I don't live in Memphis.

Is deflection your entire reason for posting on this topic or did you actually want to discuss the EBR school system? Or were you going to argue that Memphis is somehow behind the pathetic excuse for public schools in EBR?
