Following in the footsteps of their commie brothers on the west coast, the Univ of Maryland system has dropped its SAT/ACT requirements. The purported reasons have nothing to do with academic excellence and everything to do with pandering and a continuing road to making higher education irrelevant.

I’m of the belief, at this point, that the name on the diploma is increasingly worthless at top institutions.

A second or third tier institution can give you as good an education for much lower tuition.

The main perk of these top schools as of now is networking and that is less of a thing now that so many schools are heavily online.

It’s not like a lot of the renowned professors at a lot of these schools are teaching classes. They have TAs for that while they do research instead.

Standards are racist. Lol. They prevent too many minorities from entering college, not because they are less intelligent but due to lack of preparation from high school, probably high schools that have lowered academic standards so more minorities pass.
Rather than catch students up, these fools dumb it down. Liberal ideas suck and only drag down humanity. Someone lied to these folks and convinced them life is fair.
Life isn't fair and no amount of legislation or changing standards will ever change this fact.

So basically Maryland is saying they don’t think blacks can get good enough scores. Leftist racism strikes again.

College testing is an industry subset. How long before the SAT/ACT corporate offices ask for government bailouts due to low numbers? You know they're worried this could spread even more and become permanent.

Just wait till med schools get rid of the MCAT. You'll be looking for the oldest doctor you can find.

Let's get rid of grades as well. Let's just all sing kumbaya and give everyone but white males a free diploma.

I know you're joking.
But, sadly this is happening some places.
Grades are racist after all.

Covid has made this college entrance process a touchy-feely bag of shite that benefits slackers

This has been a trend in higher-ed for some time. Fewer and fewer graduate and professional programs require standardized exams such as the GRE or PCAT. The claim is that they aren't predictive of success and are inherently racist.

At the same time faculty are banging out opinion pieces in The Chronicle on how unprepared students are for college or grad school.

The notion that these observations might be related is flatly rejected without discussion.

But hey, we are diverse.

Be thorough with employment interviews. Ask questions that someone with that education should know. Use some big words in the employment application. I don't think you're allowed to check credit scores or criminal records anymore.

Yeah, good luck to any white males or Asians who apply and choose not to submit his/her scores.

This is just another racist move so that no one (e.g., the Supreme Court) can compare the scores of black candidates to other candidates.

What we're going to find in 5-10 years is that the only candidates who are allowed in without submitting ACT or SAT scores are non-Asian minorities.

This is one of the many reasons I’m against socialized medicine. Once government gets its hands on something, people will start demanding quotas. When you go to the doctor, you’ll never know if one you are seeing is intelligent and hard working enough to be a doctor or if they’re an affirmative action doctor.

I went to UVA, there was a huge gulf in quality between the oldest professors, and the middle aged ones.

But it wasn’t because of experience. They were simply a much high caliber teacher. And it was clear that they were much better educated. Their depth of knowledge and their professionalism was on another level.

They were also much more difficult, and had much higher expectations of their students as well.

I’m ok with this as long as they back their own student’s loans with their endowment instead of using taxpayer money
