Don't know if Roy Moore dated teenagers when he was in his 30's, but.....

These guys dated very young girls.
Jerry Lee Lewis' third wife was his 13 year old cousin. He was 22 at the time.
Bill Wyman dated a 13 year old when he was 47. They married when she turned 18.
Elvis Presley began dating Priscilla when she was 14. He was 24.
Dating girls that young seems pretty creepy to me. As a father of a daughter it actually seems pretty disturbing, but attitudes in the 1960's and 1970's didn't put it in the same creepy category as today. Not making an excesses for Moore if he did date teens back in the 1970's, just pointing out other well known people that did around that same era.

It was common practice for good ole baws in their 20's to steal 13, 14 year old girls away from their parents (with the parent's full permission) back in the day. Back then they needed the kids out of the house ASAP, especially in poor or rural areas. The parents needed them married off and out of the house.
So, yeah, lots of us probably have pedophile ancestors (or at least they would be considered pedos today).

Why on Earth would any grown man try to justify an adult male trying to date a female child? For fricks sake, I'm glad that my only child is a male.

As a guy with a daughter, I am not condoning it at all.
With that being said, historically speaking this has been normal. Older men marrying young teenage women has our current laws eclipsed by millions of years.

Why on Earth would a grown man claim that doing something that has been done for thousands of years and is perfectly legal in the majority of countries around the world be unusual or creepy or deserving shame?

Just because something may be legal in Yemen or 50 years ago, doesn't make it not creepy. It's harder to condem people for what may not have been as abnormal 50 years ago, but that doesn't mean I don't shake my head a bit at it if there was a huge age difference. What was an acceptable age difference in the 1970's or the 1870's? I don't know the answer to that.

As someone who does a lot of genealogy research, I'll submit that everyone posting here is likely an offspring of a pedophile and statutory rapist grandfather under the current definitions.

It's honestly kind of interesting that America bucked the western Hajnal trend for so long - but that may be the result of a frontier society, which was basically a non-entity for a long, long time until disease wiped out an entire continent.
