Not immediately, but I’d guess for sure by the end of Trumps second term.

if Trump is reelected, Thomas will announce February 1 his retirement at the end of the current term.

I would say yes...it will be a sad day because he is an absolute legend. But he has served well and needs to go enjoy the fruits of his labor.

After what the Democrats did to him, I would hope he doesn't give them the opportunity to fill his seat.

When Trump wins and we hold the Senate he is good to go

Imagine this plus Breyer retirement/death. Fricker was born in 1938. 5 SCOTUS appointment for Trump.

I think he would, yes. If Trump loses, I believe he waits till the next R president takes office.

I say wait until the end of year 3 or a little before — and then the 82 year old could be next.

Thomas seems like the type not to dictate when he retires based on who is in office. He seems to have the class to step down when it’s time, regardless of when that may be. He’s not going to sit on the bench like RGB until he dies because the wrong party is in office

Probably, he's expressed his interest in retiring soon and Trump's second term would the prime time to do so.

Thomas and Alito would need to retire before the midterms because the Senate map is brutal for GOP in 2022. Dems will control Senate from ‘22-‘24, but then lose it in the next presidential election in ‘24.

I think Thomas and Alito both retire during Trump’s 2nd term. They trust Trump’s selections and they won’t make the same mistake RBG made by staying too long

It would be political suicide for the Dems to refuse to confirm a justice for two years leading up to an election. I guess I wouldn’t put it past them but it would be very dumb of them

He definitely should retire in Trump's 2nd term, otherwise you are setting up a future RBG situation

If Trump loses (not gonna happen!), Judge Thomas should say to Trump "Hey, can you fill my vacancy on your way out? Can Mitch get it done? We got through most of January."

I think he decides after he sees who's running in 2024.
