Does Kavanaugh smear campaign help GOP?

Obviously I want Kavanaugh to be confirmed with the quickness and I don’t believe the accusations are credible. But if this drags on does this help the GOP base turn out to vote? Many people (like me) who were lukewarm to Trump were still happy to see him elected for this reason - conservative constitutionalists on the SCOTUS.

This smear campaign angers me, it angers my wife, and it angers my parents who also weren’t the biggest Trump fans either. I was going to vote anyway in the midterms but any thought I had of skipping out has gone completely. My wife is also motivated to vote and she’s only mildly political. Could this work to turn out conservative voters in November?

I would say its helping the GOP, because you are not alone in your thinking.

It would if Republicans would sack up and call it what it is, but they won't because they're feckless nancies

I don't know. The lack of backbone shown by the GOP is causing a lot of people to be angry at them.

I will say that if the GOP would have handled this the way that say Trump would have (call a spade a spade, laugh at the weakness of the Democrats ploy, then remind everyone over and over again what the democrats are willing to do to gain power) that it could have been a political winner. The chances of the GOP accomplishing that is slimmer and slimmer. This was a huge opportunity.

I sure hope so. If he gets nominated AND the Dems get screwed in the midterms it will be hilarious

Grassley is an enabler at this point.

I think it is helping, but I agree with others that it depends on how this plays out. Rs have to get this nomination through.

I don't see Repubs benefitting from this fiasco at all.

Dems are going to take the House in November. Book it! :-)

It's definitely going to reinforce the conservative base that they are right about the dems. I'm hoping the independents will look upon this in disgust and sway them to the right. Love and anger are two of the strongest motivators. Right now the right is pretty pissed.

It won't be a smear campaign after the fbi talks to the friends.

Correct. It will be a “I don’t recall” campaign.

True. At that point the Dems would be on an apology tour.

I get his strategy of giving the Democrats multiple chances to get this thing resolved just to show that this is nothing more than obstruction. However, they'll just keep doing it and abusing it.

The Dems are never going to approve a SJC under the current situation so they might as well just do it

Speaking of feckless nancies, did you catch Miss Lyndsey on Chris Wallace's show, yesterday.

He actually showed incredible restraint (I bet he owns some) and basically called it all out for the bullshite it is without calling "Dr. Ford" a liar, but basically, calling he a liar.

If anything, it will get more Republicans and independents that voted for Trump to the polls.

it should, we just can't have guys give up

this circus is proof that we are close to winning; the left has abandoned any semblance of decency and is pulling out all stops

we gotta be motivated and not let a possible loss based on people like Flake to do us in
