Gavin Newsom >>>>>>>> Andrew Cuomo

Does California, twice as populous as New York, and which experienced both first confirmed case and first death before New York, deserve more credit for the job it has done containing the coronavirus outbreak?

CNN Article

What is happening in NY now is a genuine disaster, while CA is (relatively) better news. So of course coverage differs. Still, worth asking why NY situation is so terrible, and CA not as much?

What about deaths? California had first confirmed case and first death earlier than New York. But now New York has 15.0 deaths per 100,000, while California has <1 per 100,000.

From NYT, more on the New York-California comparison in coronavirus cases and deaths. Basically, there is no comparison:

Public transportation is essential in NYC compared to Los Angeles where everyone owns a car. I get that much.

Population Density

NYC = 27,000 p/mi2
Los Angeles = 7,444 p/mi2.

Population density and public transportation. People are still crowding onto subways to get to and from work in Manhattan.

And LA is more spread out. NYC has people packed together like sardines.

Can of worms: maybe California’s healthcare system of delivery is superior to NYC’s. Maybe the citizens of California are healthier than those in NYC. Maybe California’s political movers are more competent than the a$$ clowns in NYC. Maybe the same could be said for California when compared to NOLA.

Conversation must be explored

No doubt and Gavin Newsome deserves high marks.

Not gonna shite on Cuomo too much because he has to deal with the idiots who run NYC.

No doubt plays a part BUT you'd think a city like San Francisco or even Oakland would be getting much more cases.

And LA and San Francisco were both getting thousands of visitors/tourist from China every day.

Cali governor is a leftist fear mongerer... nothing more. His guarantee of 25 million catching the virus in his state est 400k dead is going to fall short by a mile.

Lo and behold though... nobody will remember him saying that crap when it's all said and done. It'll just be pats on the back of job well done..

it's why I dont understand the left's fawning over Cuomo.

their poster child for "doing something when trump failed them" is getting fricking wriggity-wrecked by this in comparison to everyone else

New York doesn't deserve credit for anything. Cuomo became a media darling for how he gives pressers
