re: Do you support cutting military spending?
Yes and no.

I’m for getting our troops out of untenable places like the Middle East and seeing them back stateside. I understand that Russia will swoop in after us, but they can have that shithole. Don’t give a frick about the oil over there, we’ve got a shitload of oil right here under our feet and in our waters.

We need to start making other countries like South Korea, Japan, UK, France, Germany et al. defend themselves and not rely on us. We need to stop the ridiculous social experiments that are going on in the military as well, they’re costing us training time which effects military readiness and spending.

I’m not for cutting spending for training, maintenance, and weapons programs that are being pursued honestly.

With all that being said, we need to slash handouts before we slash the one thing that the federal government is responsible for.

The problem with military wasteful spending is because it's govt and not private sector. Govt entities have no incentive to streamline because they do not compete.
There are not 2 Armies, Bob's Army and Frank's Army competing for dollars.

No.

Military spending is one of the few things government is supposed to be spending money on. Its all the wasteful welfare type spending that needs to be cut.

There's a lot of military spending that is handouts though. Lots of what amounts to corporate handouts.

Which is true, but why so much? It's way beyond simply protecting the US. Is defense spending for all of Europe, Japan, etc what the US government is Constitutionally obligated to do?

In a way it is wasteful welfare type spending, albeit for companies rather than individuals.

Not trying to be argumentative, just curious, what are the handouts?

Here's the issue, gnome.

We cut military spending, but the money we save is not going back into the economy. It is being locked away for future payments on the debt/interest. Military spending plays a larger role in maintaining economic demand in the economy and providing jobs to people.

Say you take away 5 billion in military spending. That 5 billion will not be released back into the economy. It will be saved for debt payments. That means our economy has lost out on 5 billion in the short term.

No.

This is a stupid point, and it will always be a stupid point.

Absolutely, yes. Time for UN and rest of world to step up their game.

Not only do wars cost money, but they also create veterans with disabilities. The US military should modernize and downsize the manpower wherever possible. This will have the long term effect of lowering costs associated with veterans.

I am for an audit of the military and cutting costs where feasible first. Then hopefully we can get what we need and still cut spending.

How come? Boeing, Lockheed, etc putting manufacturing facilities in as many congressional districts as they can doesn’t seem like someone trying to milk the system?

Because that isn't what a handout is.

Only if you reduce the size of the mission.

If it's a part of an overall cutting of spending in an attempt to have a balanced budget, absolutely.

re: Do you support cutting military spending?
David, that's a tough question for me and I won't attempt to stand firm with a position other than at this point, no, not really......

I say that however because I am a product of growing up during the cold war, and I do hear about a rising tide of attempts by China to project their global power and a resurgence (albeit probably fueled by oil revenue and mostly regional) Russian military build up.

I acknowledge that over the past 60+ years there has always been massive waste in procurement and spending for defense, and I would love to be able to find a way to curb that.

Dimmy's always get on TV and say, "we have the strongest military in the world," and we do, but no thanks to them, and almost always in spite of them....so I never ever trust their motives on this subject, just as any other, especially given their downward spiral into outright subversion, lies, treasonous behavior and subsequent cover up in the current climate.

I think before we tackle this subject, we need to clean up and destroy the subversive globalist filth attempting to destroy our sovereignty from within, and once we have done that, maybe address this as a front burner issue.

Yes but efficiency should be rewarded with more funding, not wasteful spending.
