Do we truly have a representative government? Consider this.

When Americans are polled on congressional term limits, strict lobby reform, securing the southern border, fiscal responsibility by the federal government, pro America First policies, election integrity, etc. it’s an overwhelming yes vote to implement these policies yet the elected politicians in our federal government fail to deliver the will of the people.

You tell me if you have a representative government?

You do not, you live under a Corporatocracy.

If a politician campaigns on promises to deliver any of that and then doesn’t, then the idiots that elected them the first time vote for them again, it’s hard to say the system isn’t working. People have to accept accountability for their votes.

If you are talking general elections then yes I’ll go ahead and say that it’s the voters fault, in spite of significant bias

If you’re talking about primaries then you don’t understand the MOST basic’s principles of marketing.
If you are in the club, you get half the financial weight of the most powerful political machine in the history of the world to promote you and desecrate your opponents while they are left to leverage grass roots donations and their own ability to tell stories to try and overthrow the most powerful political machine ever. Voters are rarely in a position to realistically remove terrible incumbents during primaries and then are left with the lesser of two evils in generals

Repeal the 17th amendment. State legislatures were supposed to elect the senior legislative body for a reason.

That may be the only way to get people to pay attention to their state legislatures.

You left out the part where we, the people, are hardly ever the people the final arbiter of who gets picked to run. It’s the next guy up in my state and in yours. Any outsider, even with better ideas and a better platform, is left out in the cold with not enough money to properly run an effective campaign.

You have a choice between two shitty candidates and you have to pick the one that you are guessing is telling the least lies. This is getting so old.

The ole boys network is alive and well and stronger than ever.

You have the illusion of input in the process, but no actual control. That’s why incumbents get re-elected year after year, even as they fail to deliver on their promises to ordinary people.

What matters is the support candidates get from the party bureaucracy, and the money (support) they get from the rich and from corporations. Those structural advantages, not any one candidates performance or popularity, determine the outcome of elections. They get that support by dutifully following through on the needs and wants of those constituents, rather ordinary people.

Statistically, support from the richest in society is what gets legislation enacted. A measure supported by let’s say, the top 15% will get enacted a high rate, vs legislation that is popular among the bottom 40%, which will never be passed.

That's the two-party paradigm that they continue to cultivate with minimal resistance.

This has gone on for decades. Everyone in Congress sucks, except for *your* congresswoman. Everyone else is the problem, it's never you. No matter the approval level, it's the same.

/\ this /\

Plus iron clad voter registration, identification, in person, one day, paper ballot, finger ink, and 'truth in campaigning' provisions.

With felony penalties for false advertising wrt the opposition = (you can lie about what you promise to do - but you cannot lie about what your opponent DID if he didn't DO it.)

AND - IF you claim some harm will be done by something the opponent is saying = you MUST defend that allegation in a DEBATE with him on the topic.

There MUST be something done to separate JOURNALISM from PROPAGANDA.

We need to demand that 'propaganda' level journalism be considered CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTIONs by the FEC.

Yes. We elect a representative to congress to represent themselves and their best interests.

I think he meant what he wrote. It’s different than anything in the past. Corporatocracy is the union of Politicians, Corporations and Media. This has never happened in US history, but it is entrenched now.

You have several misguided suggestions, but this is the worst. You are advocating for a Ministry of Truth.

It’d be interesting if any of your downvoters would be so gracious as to educate us all and explain why you’re wrong.

And yes - since we already live in a dystopian political era there may be NO solution other than - wait for it -
