I genuinely don’t know... but can’t we just use drones and drop bombs on targets?

Yes. They don't need to be our boots though. We could dupport with drones and DAPs and if we found the right partner they could be the actual boots on the ground.

ISIS isn’t the enemy. Iran isn’t the enemy. Islam is the enemy. To win this war, the strategic objective must be to make Islam unbelievable. This is actually easy to do, since it is a religion based on geopolitical conquest with a physical center.
Why do you think those pictures from the 60s with girls in miniskirts in Egypt in Iran exist? Because the victories of the allied powers in World War One and Two, their wealth, their technological superiority was seen by the people of that region as a repudiation of the historic doctrines of Islam. Our current weakness and self doubt is has them turning back to their old ways.

Not traditional military, no. We probably need trustworthy eyes/ears on the ground, whether they’re spooks or trusted sources.
