Do last night's results change anything going forward in Congress?

Do you think this will light a fire under Republicans in Congress to get meaningful legislation passed before the 2018 midterms might remove their majorities in the House and Senate? In a rational world I would think it would (i.e. might as well get stuff done to motivate your base, and even if you get voted out at least you did something), but I'm not optimistic at all. Maybe if McCain is replaced by next spring there'd be a chance on repealing Obamacare and tax reform, but with only two votes to spare in the Senate and 3-4 RINO senators more interested in backstabbing Trump than helping their constituents, the situation looks bleak.

Us working people would think so. However, this is government. The message the spineless Republicans will see is, "Man, these democrats won seats in a largely democrat state. I guess i need to get more Democrat". Maybe it's a good thing. And we can get these RINO's out of office for more conservative candidates.

One can only hope but I believe GOP-ers are dense beyond the comprehension of normal people.
The problem is a couple of spiteful cowards who have quit and don't care and another who will be dead soon.

I don't know if they are brave and bold enough.

Of course not. A chunk of them want the Dems to take over so they can shift the blame and say “we couldn’t pass anything because Dems have a majority, elect us we’ll change that”
It’s all a mery go round. Each side taking turns.

Not yet. Local politics are local. If the Democrats are to contest elections all over the country, they need competitive candidates. There is already enough slime in the Republican administration and Congress to allow democrats everywhere to be competitive, but they won’t unless they recruit good candidates and run good campaigns. Republicans in Congress are not really threatened right now.
And those Republican children in Congress can’t even agree on kids nutrition and health.

Based on the early reactions the #NeverTrump types are ecstatic. They seem to think they just need to keep opposing Trump on everything and it will restore the rightful order of things in DC - Dem House in '18 and Dem President in '20.

Nothing changes. Most elected Reps are weak and just want to keep their seats. No bold initiatives like real repeal and replace just keep the status quo and don't make people (Dems) mad.

The reason Trump can't shite done is because he has blown all his political capital making dumbshit Twitter posts instead of being the master negotiator he sold himself as. Last nights crushing defeat is a signal to existing republicans that they do not have to blindly support Trump like a Trumpsucker on the PT.
Trump has 33% approval. Noone is scared of him outside the deep south.

That's the thing I don't get... Republicans were talking about repealing Obamacare and tax reform long before Trump came on the stage. If they had just failed in getting $ allocated for the wall that would be one thing more specifically tied to Trump, but these were supposed to be bread and butter issues that all wings of the Republican party agreed on.

Unfortunately, the GOP-E will read into this that they need to distance themselves from the "Dark" words of Trump

Congress has an approval at 13%.
13 fricking %. It’s been below 20% for decade. (10 yrs below 20%).
GOP ran on repeal and replace long before Trump. They had 8 years to put a plan together. Trump ran on this as would any GOP candidate. GOP has been running on tax reform for a decade. His tweets are the furthest thing from “losing political capital”. GOP elected officials have zero clue what they are doing or just don’t want to do anything at all. I despise much of trumps twitter rants however someone needs to light a fire in some asses. People elected a message and change not trump. Same needs to be said for the GOP members of House and Senate. Just pass meaningful fricking legislation on healthcare and tax reform, ignore trump if you have too.

What's to get? They spent 8 years simply opposing anything and everything Obama supported instead of actually governing. Then they got the White House and were caught with their pants down. And the person they put in the WH is clueless on actual policy.
There will be a sense of urgency to get the tax cuts passed. Whether they can remains to be seen. I think a lot of vulnerable R's in blue states are going to get squeamish though.
