Kim Potter shot a violent criminal during an arrest. Alec Baldwin shot an innocent woman on a movie set. Both shootings were accidental. Potter’s going to prison. Baldwin hasn’t even been charged. What accounts for the disparate treatment in the two cases? #KimPotter #AlecBaldwin

Celtic and Decatur will be along shortly to enlighten us.

Two tiered "justice"!

After she was found guilty I said this won't do Alec any favors. My question is was Alec required to do a drug test? I tried to find information on this and nothing came up. If it was anyone else a drug test would have been required. I think this is going to come down to were there drugs in his system or not.

They both should be in prison.

Difference is simple - 1 is a lunatic liberal movie star . His contributions to the moral collapse of society has been useful. Hes protected.

Look, I hate Alec Baldwin, but the stories being told by the shooters here makes it completely obvious that Potter breached an obvious standard of care while Baldwin may or may not have done the same.
Potter openly admits she fricked up and pulled her gun instead of a taser. It's pure outright negligence, open and shut case. A reasonable police officer would not have made such a mistake and there's really no scenario where an officer would be excused for not knowing which weapon he was using, unless perhaps he was ambushed and under direct fire.
Baldwin may have breached a standard of care, or maybe not. He was definitely supposed to point at the camera and pull the trigger for the scene, so the acts themselves weren't per se negligent. Was he supposed to check the chamber of the weapon? I'd argue yes but plenty of others (jurors) would say no. He doesn't know guns, he doesn't know what blanks look like, they hired a master armorer to handle, prepare, and provide the guns. Is it industry custom for actors to be checking chambers themselves? Do they even know how? Is that part of the normal skill set that a reasonable actor needs to do their job? I have a feeling you could convince plenty of jurors that an actor was not required to know anything about gun safety to use a prop gun provided to him on a movie set by a professional armorer. Again, I'd disagree, but I can recognize that Baldwin"s act was quite different from the breach of care committed by Potter.

Neither should be in prison. They were both tragic accidents.

The crime of negligent homicide was pretty much invented to cover tragic (preventable) accidents. Do you think Potter's mistake was reasonable for a trained police officer?
Eta: I do not agree with her manslaughter conviction, but do think she committed a negligent homicide.

They're both idiots that should not be allowed to handle firearms but Baldwins victim doesn't have the necessary requirements.

And no blood was taken in all likelihood. Not just drugs. Alcohol.
You can’t by law use or even possess a firearm in most (maybe all) states. It’s not like driving, where 0.08 is a limit. It’s 0.0. If underage drinking gets off with a pass if you’re below 0.03.

Well one reason is Potter is an agent of the state, and in that role more is expected of her.

1. We hold our law enforcement officers to a higher standard of care than we do actors.
2. There was video evidence of the Kim Potter incident & it has yet to be determined if there is video evidence of the Alec Baldwin incident.
3. Alec Baldwin has fled the jurisdiction & isn't cooperating with investigators. Kim Potter didn't do either.
4. Kim Potter has not been sentenced yet, so we don't know if she is actually going to jail.

Potter never lied. As soon as she killed the thug, she broke down and screamed that she was going to jail.
After Baldwin murdered the innocent woman on the movie bset, he lied about pulling the trigger. ...and he's still lying about it.

You don't get to take a life then say oops. Actions have consequences no matter the intentions.
