And was lauded by the left for it? Maybe it’s some sort of Mandela effect? But now Trump is excoriated for withdrawing a few troops from a multifaceted century old civil war in an area with zero strategic significance?

IMHO the best medicine for the area is Assad, he tamps down the Islamists, tempers the Kurds and protects Christians and others. But he didn’t want a pipeline for the Gulf States and international financiers......
