Did the founders intend for 51% to have so much power?

51 senate votes And more or less 51% of the population? How did we get to this point. 51 senators can determine if we add extra states, remove the 2nd ammendment, pack courts, remove fillabuster, and every leftists totalitarian dream come true. All thanks to a more than questionable election process that even if was accurate would account for a slim majority of the American people going against this.

Probably not. But the current party holding that slim majority is peachy keen with it. They will now change the political landscape for the foreseeable future.

Did they intend for 85 million to not have any power?

Don't forget that the original design was corrupted by the 17th Amendment.

If the Senate represented states, the states would not easily create other states that would water down their power.

Ironically, only two states were added after the passage of the 17th Amendment.

And those states brought a lot to the table in terms of resources and strategic value.

A basic cost/benefit analysis would need to be done.

What resources and strategic value would DC and Puerto Rico bring?

Nope

The filibuster is a senate rule and is nowhere in the Constitution. Why would anything other than a majority of senators be needed to get rid of it?

Outside a couple long stretches where one party dominated congress with supermajorities (see Dems for the middle portion of the 20th century), it has always been this way.

Yes, Congress and specifically the Senate are designed to work on thin margins.

51% of this nation are a bunch of useful idiots.

It’s time to shrug TF out of absolutely everything associated with progressives.

Stay out of their way and encourage them to fail.

None that would require them to become states (outside of the Dems wanting 4 new Senate seats) My point was that there wasn’t a rush for states to join up post 17A.

Welcome to 2016. Your guy didn’t even get a majority of the popular vote, no where close to 50%.

I believe the 1st state was added to shore up defense of our pacific coast line post pearl harbor and the 2nd state was added to protect from cold war encroachment from communist soviet union.
I guess adding dc as a state protects the swamp from populist encroachment on dc.
Its been scary 4 years for the establishment.

No.

The founders were genius. Before you go messing with the Constitution, read it.

Also, look back to whoever gave you this intel. He’s an idiot. If you made it up on your own, stop spreading lies.

True, there wasn't many places left on the planet that weren't under some government by the 1950s.

I think that begs the question did the founders intend for the press and news media to abuse freedom of speech and have so much power?

“Democracy is the tyranny of the majority.”

The Roman Republic lasted almost 500 years. We managed to frick ours up in less than half the time. Pretty impressive.

Individual states need more power, the Feds less. It shouldn't be this devisive. Too much central power.

The courts agreed. And that’s the large part of the reason you lost all the election lawsuits.

Just look at the hypocrites. Y’all are crying about “majority rule”, but can’t admit republicans have never really been the majority.
