I like the attached article. It sort of highlights a concern I’ve had since this whole thing started. The CV is a very urban v rural phenomenon and has pitted 2 groups of our citizens against each other.

I’ve noticed it in Louisiana NOLA v more rural. I’ve seen a few posts re: ATL v rural Georgia.

My thoughts are that our goal should be to preserve our “way of life,” and the focus has been too narrow. We can’t live in fear- but we CANNOT overburden
our hospitals.

Much of what I’ve read on this topic is one of 2 extremes 1) Everyone needs to just go about their business bc we live in a free country no change at all; 2) Utter lockdown.

Nobody seems to be talking about what can we do that actually makes sense.

If I were benevolent dictator here’s what I would suggest:

1) Hotspots remain quarantined and the Federal Authority will be used/needed to keep people in hot spot states from traveling to other states until the virus stops spreading.

E.g. Florida probably doesn’t have the legal authority to stop interstate commerce into its state, but the Federal Gvt does.

2) Intrastate wise (ie Louisiana/NY), the smartest thing to do would be to require masks & gloves in public, make (or make available) everyone take Hydrocloroquine as a prophylactic, and issue shelter in place for at risk populations only until the virus dissipates.

There should be some objective standard or goal we are working towards. I think It makes compliance easier to enforce, bc more people will voluntarily participate.

Smartest thing for us LA folks is to close our interstates so the corona-infested gumps won’t get in here.

You talk way too much sense.

We must blanket the world with the most draconian measures to prepare for the most disastrous possible outcome from the most biased model.

This is climate change with a more visible vehicle.

Speaking of "climate change" just wait for the next democrat president.

Wednesday, you make a lot of sense. But humanity as a whole is not programmed for a measured, reasoned response to ANYTHING. Our genetic makeup seems to MANDATE an “all-or-nothing” reaction.

I’ve been freaking out about this since Trump had to use emergency powers for the wall. It has only gotten worse since this Coronavirus nonsense

So you want to shut off all urban and suburban areas from rural areas? What exactly would be the difference? Do you know how many "hotspots" we have right now?

This right here.....becuase flattening some imaginary curve that some government doctor created and was approved by Democrats is simply ridiculous and even the lowest common denominators of society see through it. That is why you see people not complying with the government's suggested measures...regardless of if they will help or not.

You can bet your arse there are way more "non-hotspots" than "hotspots".

I don't know if freaking out is the term but you should be concerned anytime executives start executing their power

Accurate.

I love NYC. It’s fun. Great energy. Great restaurants. Great shopping. But Even tho NYC thinks it’s the center of the universe. It is not.

It’s very specific culture makes it a hot spot. They’re just gonna have to ride this shite out. We’ll support - but we are not ALL the same. It’s why states have different public health laws. Different culture, climate, geography. What makes sense for NYC doesn’t make sense for rural Indiana.

Hopefully we return to federalism with the Fed Gvt doing only what the Fed Gvt is designed to do.

mmcgrath

Squarely in the lockdown everything (bc leftists are all totalitarian by nature bc they see all in terms of the collective).

And where the frick did I say “shut off all urban and suburban areas from rural ones”?

Leftists. Hear and see only what they want to. Life must be so sad for you.

This is a pretty good argument against urban centers and mass transit, two leftist ideals.

But, we are not doing this for NYC. What has happened there can happen in rural/small town areas to a lesser degree. Look at Dougherty, GA. 607 cases in a county with less than 100,000 people.

Exactly. It’s why we need to isolate hot spots and quarantine their at risk populations, restrict travel to and fro those regions, and otherwise place those more restrictive requirements only where needed.

Human beings were not meant to live on top of each other like sardines. The self-important New York types always make note of how we in the South choose to live in an area where there's lots of water and a chance for hurricanes, almost as if we deserve it. Well here you go Yankee bastards, this is what happens when there's 8 million people in 32 square miles.
