And when the statue comes down, will still live in Jefferson County. A guy who owned slaves. Who's face is on every single manhole cover in Birmingham.

Birmingham didn’t exist during the civil war.

Meanwhile, Chicago still has a statue and monument of Stephen Douglas.
You know, the guy that ran against Lincoln and was in support of slavery.
Gee, I wonder why those monuments still stand?

Why do I feel like this entire operation is about to be shut down with an injunction preventing it's removal? If the state allows Birmingham do do their own thing, this is going to open up the flood gates across the state.

Okay, just curious. I always thought the Robert E. Lee and Jefferson Davis statues in New Orleans were kinda funny considering how briefly the city was under confederate control and how little it resisted union occupation. On the flip side, I was absolutely ashamed at the treatment of the Bouregard statue and the Liberty Place monument, as those had extremely important historical ties to the city, its history, and the nation’s history as a whole.
I don’t pretend to know much about Anti-bellum Alabama history.

do they even know how that monument is anchored in place? It's 50 feet tall, so I imagine its tied into the base very securely. Calling in some random arse crane crew to try and remove it could be dangerous.
and god help that idiot mayor if someone gets killed in the process

I hope they put a statue of George Floyd in it’s place.
I wouldn't put it passed the clowns that run Bham.
