Democratic pollster Silas Lee said in an interview that aired Thursday on Hill.TV's "What America's Thinking" that the South is experiencing a "counter-revolution," resulting in hotly contested races there.
"You're looking at the Deep South in reference to Mississippi and Georgia, and in both states, you have African-Americans in the runoff," Lee, a sociology professor at Xavier University of Louisiana, told Hill.TV's Joe Concha on Wednesday.
"In Georgia, an African-American female. In Mississippi an African-American male, and in both states, they were epicenters for the Civil Rights Movement and for voter enfranchisement," he continued.
"Fast-forward to 2018, we're back to the issue of protecting the vote and voter suppression, in reference to ensuring the right to vote for African-Americans and other people who have been historically disenfranchised," he said.
"What we see right now in … Mississippi and Georgia, 'the Fifth Revolution,' I call it, … we went from protecting the rights of people in reference to social security, ecology, gender and race. Now it's the counter-revolution," he said.

If Espy gets elected in MS, you might see a revolution.

That's coming quicker than you think.
Look Coastal Elites love blacks - in Mississippi. And they love to fight racism - in Mississippi. When it is their butt or bottom line, in regards to something like Stop and Frisk in NYC, well you just don't understand flyover country mouth-breather.
Right now we have a reverse of the Great Migration of the early part of the 20th century.
The numbers aren't moving as quickly as that one did, but blacks are leaving the Northeast and Midwest in increasing numbers; and the migration out of the Western US is really ahead of that.
So where are they going? Atlanta. And to the rest of Georgia, and the other old Confederate States sans Texas (and Arkansas, I guess).
What that means for politics going forward I have no idea. But at some point I think Mississippi flips to a black majority, then I have no idea what comes after that.
Georgia and Atlanta have done very well since the 60's. But if Abrams had won... not sure what that would have meant for Georgia. Best case she would have been a hypocrite and avoided upsetting the applecart.
If she actually tried to implement what she ran on, and somehow had the legislature to implement it...
Well once upon a time Detroit was the Paris of the West, and had some awesome architecture. No law other than that of inertia says Atlanta couldn't become a bigger version of Birmingham or Memphis.

You can’t think of Mississippi without thinking of the word stupid. I hope the rednecks there get their arse out and vote but I am not sure they are smart enough to realize what will happen if they are lazy and stay home.
I don’t want to think that Mississippians are as stupid as Gumps but I am not sure.

The rednecks are the REASON the state is in the condition it's in.

You shouldn’t cast stones.
The only reason LA has a Dem Governor as opposed to a Dem Senator is that Vitter was running for Governor and not re-election.
