Katherine Eban: COVID-19 Lab Leak: Examining all sides of the debate and discussing barriers to a full investigation

“There is no smoking gun per se. What there is is smoke coming out of a lot of windows. ... There is enough smoke coming out of enough windows that we cannot take the lab leak hypothesis off the table, and so for me, the most credible people on this, they're not saying it was a lab leak. What they're saying is, ‘Why can't we have a full investigation?’” —Katherine Eban

quote:

Katherine Eban is an award-winning investigative journalist who previously appeared on The Drive to discuss the widespread fraud in the generic drug industry. In this episode, she discusses the content of her recent Vanity Fair article, which examined the evidence for the theory that the COVID-19 pandemic resulted from a virus lab escape as opposed to a natural virus that came from an animal host. Katherine and Peter walk through the evidence for both theories as well as discuss the long and troubling history of dangerous lab leaks and safety concerns about the Wuhan Institute of Virology. They also talk about the controversy surrounding gain-of-function research and its funding by the US government. Finally, they conclude with a discussion on the likelihood of definitively establishing the origins of the virus given the Chinese government’s lack of cooperation and highlight the fact that the many barriers to performing a full investigation may be the most troubling aspect of the controversy.

We discuss:
An overview of the lab leak controversy [1:30];
The troubling history of lab leaks of dangerous pathogens [8:30];
The zoonotic transmission theory: did SARS2 come from a bat? [11:45];
The debate about gain-of-function (GoF) research [26:15];
Questions about US funding of GoF research in China [33:45];
The uncertain significance of the furin cleavage site [51:30];
Discerning what’s most important about both the zoonotic transmission and lab leak theories [1:01:15];
Barriers to a full investigation [1:19:15]

The frustrating part is that they begrudgingly acknowledge Trump was right but not so subtly blame Trump for the politicization of the (mis)management

Orange man still bad even when blunt about yellow man...

It doesn’t matter to me whether this accidentally leaked, somewhat accidentally leaked, as in oops…sorry but not really sorry, or if it was a straight up intentional release…the fact that this disease was in existence at all needs to be dealt with. Because at some point even if it was an accident now, it was just a matter of time before it would be intentionally released or used as a means of extortion.

Oh yeah, frick China and any group that helped them!

This.

Whether the virus was accidentally leaked is of secondary importance — we may indeed never know the true answer to that question since any inquiry into this matter must first be vetted and approved by China’s State Council before it is released to other scientists in the international community.

Yet this leads to a more important matter: why was U.S. taxpayer money used to fund GOF research in a ChiCom Weapons Lab?

In a just world, heads would be on pikes for such an outrage.

"To understand that," Dombey said, "you have to go back twenty months. It was around then that a Chinese scientist named Li Chen defected to the United States, carrying a diskette record of China's most important and dangerous new biological weapon in a decade. They call the stuff 'Wuhan-400' because it was developed at their RDNA labs outside the city of Wuhan, and it was the four-hundredth viable strain of man-made microorganisms created at that research center. "Wuhan-400 is a perfect weapon. It afflicts only human beings."

Kinda like why can't we have a full forensic audit?

BIBGO = I have always thought there was some sort of collusion between xina and DEMs when this thing first became a pandemic = the ONLY thing that could stop Trump's second term and having a somewhat free reign from all the hurdles the cabal erected for him to navigate in the first.

Coincidences like this just don't happen - and especially whey you examine how the DEMs reacted to it - plans even for the mass-mailing ballots fraud already in the execution stage early on.

If the west released this virus onto the world, bet the house the sky screaming gender benders, WHO, the CDC, politicians, etc. would be calling for heads.
