For a guy that's been impeached again, he's sure causing a stir on the way out the door.

The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) on Thursday finalized a controversial rule banning large banks from rejecting businesses based on their industry.

The move comes less than two months after the agency first proposed the regulations.

The rule makes it illegal for any bank regulated by the OCC with more than $100 billion in assets to reject a customer for reasons other than financial risk. Supporters and critics of the rule both say it is intended to prevent more banks from joining those who’ve stopped serving firearm companies and financing oil and gas drilling projects.

Banks getting out of O&G/Energy/Chemcials lending due to being a snowflake white liberal retard is funny.

That industry is an absolute mammoth worldwide and the repercussions would be YUGE!

Can't wait to see those too big to fail assholes on the soup line.

Tell you what, if businesses are allowed to not serve people for whatever reason (race, sex, gender, etc.) without government/legal repercussions, then I will agree with you.

As long as "bake that fricking cake you bigot" is the law of the land, then things like this will happen.

Banks crawled into bed with government 100 years ago.

Sleep with the dog, catch fleas.

No sympathy.

The whole cake baking thing doesn't exactly apply here because you can just go to another bakery and get a cake.

But for a firearm manufacturer or firearm dealer to be told by banks that they will not do business with them is a big deal because that could kill the entire industry. What if a firearm dealer gets told by credit card processors that they won't process credit card transactions? How many people would shop at a firearm dealer that only took cash?

Considering the amount owners that lost their gun in a boating accident and/or are opposed to registries I would assume all of them.

You do know the Court ruled 7-2 that the cake shop owner didn’t have to make the cake, right?

The government is there to call balls and strikes. Banks refusing services to an entire industry because "they are icky" is clearly a strike and you are clearly a moron.

The problem isn't one store saying they don't want to make a cake for someone. Its every bakery said they wouldn't make them a cake.

That is the slippery slope with telling banks they can deny service to someone.

Not because business can do whatever they want with their property, but because a constitutional right to religion.

That was in no way a victory for free markets. It was a victory for freedom of religion.

So try again.

He is using their own tactics against them.

Bill Clinton signed a bunch of bullshite in such as EPA rule changes to force W to have the bad press of rolling back environmental regs.

You fundamentally misunderstand the metaphor. The strike zone is the existing law and the government is there to enforce the law and call a ball or strike depending on whether you broke the law.

This is the government expanding the strike zone in order to force a preferred outcome.

I’ll ignore the ad hom for now.
