News flash - Unemployment in DC up to 25% as restaurants slash number of servers in response to law change.

Its not about reducing the number of servers, its about reducing the number of hours. Doesn't matter how many people are working, the hours your store is open remains the same.

Restaurants are going to get smoked.

And some of the worst. With little to no signs of improvement or relief.

Thanks to welfare. Dems force policies then blame the results of those policies on others. Color me surprised.

A bit anecdotal but I think ownership too.

A good friend of mine owns a number of restaurants in Adams Morgan and Dupont. Fully against. Has been on social media for days trying to drum support to vote No.

Not every city can be as crime free as D.C. Right?

I’ve spent my fair share of time in the District.

If the Deep South sucks so badly....how come liberal yankee douches keep moving down here?

Why not stay in the Utopias that they created?

This will result in less hours, less tips, and probably cost passed down to the customer.

Gentrification will take care of that. What you’re seeing in DC is what happened to parts of NYC (like Brooklyn). No poor people can afford to live in DC and they take most of the crime with them when they get the boot.

And again, most of the Deep South remains a giant shithole.

Interestingly enough, wait staffs in DC opposed this bill. So did the Dem Mayor of DC. Progs pushed this through and are going to cause a lot of people to lose jobs and shifts.

yep

I know of 2 hardcore progressive commies who were up and down FB lobbying against 77. It's hilarious to watch the left cannibalize their fellow skyscreamers with their agendas. They dont even know who to be mad at anymore.

Roughly a third of children live in poverty.

So your solution is chase the poors off

That's the prog spirit!

Not my solution by any means, just observing what’s happening, and has been happening for years. It’s not exactly rocket science.

The point was really about comparing SE DC to the Deep South is a losing comparison. DCs “problems”, if you will, are being rapidly fixed. The Deep South will likely be a shithole forever.

Someday oil will be obsolete, we’re a ways off (I think) but it’ll happen, probably our lifetime. When it does, Louisiana might become the biggest shithole of them all. Those tourist dollars don’t go that far.

Trillions of tax dollars flowing through millions of leaches tends to raise the standard of living. For some, at least.

A bit hyperbolic and whiny, but yes, at your core, you’re correct. As long as the gov is in DC the area is pretty much gaurunteed to prosper.

I lived there through the recession, we barely felt it, outside of maybe housing prices seeing a small dip.

Now a sandwich & side lunch will cost $18 in DC.

They'll just factor it into their department's expense account or factor it into their cost plus contract with the government. Either way, the taxpayer will end up footing the difference.

Can’t wait to hear their howls when they are making minimum wage and nobody is tipping.

I wish. Servers have been getting the full minimum here ($12) for as long as I've lived here and the tipping system is fully intact.
