D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser says statehood for the district should be on the president's desk within the first 100 days of the new Congress. She also calls for Congress to create a nonpartisan commission to examine the "catastrophic security failures" behind the Capitol siege

I'm pretty sure it takes longer than 100 days to produce and pass a constitutional amendment because that's what it's going to take.

As of right now, that would take a 2/3 vote in the Senate, too.

It doesn’t take a constitutional amendment to admit a new state

We don't but isn't it unconstitutional for the land designated to our federal capitol to be a state, for the very reason you democrats want to make it one?

Read the Constitution. D.C. is expressly forbidden to be a state by the Constitution. The Founding Fathers designed it to be that way. You need to pass a constitutional amendment to override that language.

I admittedly don't know the ins and outs of our governmental policies, but since you say "as of right now" does that mean that they can change that? Do they need 2/3rds to change it? Or just majority? (I know the second option doesn't make much sense, but it's not like thats a requirement for anything anymore)

Well I mean they have Israel a state because of the Holocaust

DC deserves a state because of persecution of TRUMP supporters

Sarcasm [on] off

Game over.

If they accomplish this, secession is the only option left. Peaceful or otherwise, makes no difference at this point.
