Dan Bongino thinks Buzzfeed story was a trap to catch a leaker

Bongino (ex-Secret Service) said (on Tucker Carlson) the Buzzfeed story feels like a "canary trap" - i.e., several different false stories are told to several different insiders. When a particular story gets reported in the media, the leaker is exposed.

I've been thinking the same thing all day.

This is why Buzzkilled is standing by their story. They claim the source(s) are feds. They want Dishonest Bob to prove their story is false.
Poor Buzzkilled. Here they are with a story that is Fake News.
Baghdad Bob strikes again.

So is Bongino implying someone in the WH is leaking and the Trump team is trying to catch them? Or is he implying Mueller is trying to catch leakers on his own team?

It would be the second government person to be discovered leaking DOJ material to the press. The last one was Natalie May Edwards out of the FinCEN Unit.

The dossier itself was brought to buzzfeed...
Then those retards published it...

Pretty sure Trump wouldn’t leak the story in question. Not helpful.

I think muellers team had it leaked to get Ohr off the front pages. Its obvious now mueller and his whole team knew they had poisoned fruit before they even began the witch hunt....and did it anyway.

It helps the fake news narrative. But they needed Mueller to do what he did today.

My first thought was Trump loyalists put this out just to shite on the media once it was proven false

Oh it's definitely helpful if you know the story is BS

I think the implication is that the Trump Administration is conveying (planting) stories to administration insiders that differ in detail to each person told. Later when a story turns up in the media they know the leaker from the version the press reports. That's my take.

The concept makes sense generally speaking. I've used the same tactic before (not knowing there was a name for this technique)
But at any rate, I'm sort of curious how that would have went down given the subject at hand here

Yes. I had the exact same thought when the Mueller denial hit. Someone done been caught.

Still funny to see the obvious liberal bias on the network news get caught with their paints down

i.e., the old Tyrion Lannister trap.

I would say that’s pretty damn unethical to use that story as a trap. It was a huge smear against the President that if true would have resulted in impeachment. They could use something else to catch the leaker.
But, I don’t trust any of those guys to do the right thing.

According to court documents, Edwards was arrested on Tuesday with a flash drive on hand containing SARs, as well as the phone she used to contact the unidentified BuzzFeed reporter. Edwards reportedly exchanged over 300 messages with the unidentified reporter. While court documents do not name the reporter, he has been identified by the New York Times and other media outlets as Jason Leopold, an investigative reporter at BuzzFeed News. Leopold and BuzzFeed have declined to comment about Edwards’ arrest.
