Sounds like their saying the same thing to me. Their fear of the govt is what caused it(or made it much worse). That’s the way it’s portrayed

They are saying opposite things which is clear from the producers words of praise for Stephen Kings description of the show and how the producer inferred that King got it.
Anyone who watched the show can see that the State greatly exacerbated the situation simply to cover their own asses from National scrutiny.

The problem is that leftist always claim that Socialism fails because people don't implement it the right way. They fail to realize that it is exactly because humans are imperfect and are subject to greed, intimidation, fear, excess, etc. that causes it to fail. We never will have perfect people, so the system will never work.

I'm eagerly awaiting the 5th episode and think it's a great show.
Bongino is correct, the producers went out of their way to sanitize the system of government at the root of the problem.
However, if you have any knowledge of history or common sense you understand that the actions of the people are a byproduct of the disposition of the State.
I've refreshed my history and researched outside of the show to see what they portrayed accurately and such.
I don't think we appreciate how close the Soviet Union came to destroying the world. They were within hours of rendering the European Continent uninhabitable.
Moreover, I have a new theory too, that Chernobyl was the straw that broke the Soviet Camels back and led to the end of the Union

Fear is the one word that keeps coming to my mind as I watch the show. Each citizen was in constant fear of doing the wrong thing and being shot for it. And even the party officials were in fear of being bugged or surveilled by the KGB.
The socialists government breeds snitches and finger pointers.

They're half right, but not intentionally half right.
Socialism will always fail because of human nature. There's no way to implement it in "the right way", because humans will always act in their own interest, it's primal and biological, it can't be changed.
Capitalism succeeds because of human nature, and throughout the history of mankind, we have only progressed as a species because of people being free to act in their own interest.

Big differences in 3 mile versus Chernobyl, while both were largely caused by human error and inadequate training, along with faulty equipment.
The operators at 3 mile didn't spend 3 days denying that the nuclear core had exploded while the government officials blockaded instead of evacuating and sending untrained, ill equipped and unsuspecting first responders to their death, all out of fear of being executed by the state

The scene in part 4 where the robot purchased from Germany died picking up the graphite because Party officials underplayed the levels of radiation present, underscored the entire event.
