Yesterday marked the publication of a long-delayed trial in Denmark which hopes to answer that very question. The ‘Danmask-19 trial’ was conducted in the spring with over 6,000 participants, when the public were not being told to wear masks but other public health measures were in place. Unlike other studies looking at masks, the Danmask study was a randomised controlled trial – making it the highest quality scientific evidence.
Around half of those in the trial received 50 disposable surgical face masks, which they were told to change after eight hours of use. After one month, the trial participants were tested using both PCR, antibody and lateral flow tests and compared with the trial participants who did not wear a mask. Randomised trials are important if we want to understand the impact of measures like face masks In the end, there was no statistically significant difference between those who wore masks and those who did not when it came to being infected by Covid-19. 1.8 per cent of those wearing masks caught Covid, compared to 2.1 per cent of the control group. As a result, it seems that any effect masks have on preventing the spread of the disease in the community is small.
Some people, of course, did not wear their masks properly. Only 46 per cent of those wearing masks in the trial said they had completely adhered to the rules. But even if you only look at people who wore masks ‘exactly as instructed’, this did not make any difference to the results: 2 per cent of this group were also infected.
When it comes to masks, it appears there is still little good evidence they prevent the spread of airborne diseases.
The results of the Danmask-19 trial mirror other reviews into influenza-like illnesses. Nine other trials looking at the efficacy of masks (two looking at healthcare workers and seven at community transmission) have found that masks make little or no difference to whether you get influenza or not.

They are losing the american people because their narratives are all over the place and none of them fit together. Masks are a classic example. Theres a tik tok montage floating around of Fauci taking every possible side of the mask debate.
The worst, for me, is the vaccine debate. Biden brought nothing new to the table with covid response except an accelerated vaccine administration program so aggressive, some thought it impossible. By July 4th, they only missed their goal by a few clicks, but were where "we needed to be" within days. We should be cruising, right?
Wrong. July isnt even over yet and the failure of this plan isnt being pinned on the administration or the vaccine itself, its being blamed on the remaining Americans yet to be vaccinated. Now we need to go back to masks to "protect the vaccinated from the unvaccinated".

Spoke to my MD Friend the other day re masks, and he told me that the volume of virus which one intakes in an infection, matters. To a relative degree, in the onslaught of the body's defense/reaction (inflammation) to said infection. He said it is virtually impossible to prevent a virus from getting into one's body; especially in today's society.
He said he'll put a mask on in highly confined and populated scenarios, to give him a small edge re the Variants that will be coming. But that since he's already had to Virus and has antibodies, that he don't worry about it. Better - once diagnosed - to hit it early with Steroids, ZPac, etc. to combat the inflammation.
It's all political now. "Never let a good crisis go to waste". Sick! Government and Fauci killed a lot of good folk.

Fauci was right day one on 60 Minutes. A properly fitted, N95 mask likely would help. A blinged-out cloth mask from Wal-Mart will not and likely makes it worse do to constantly touching it and then transmitting it to eyes, mouth, others, etc. People are too stupid to understand the difference. Additionally, pre-covid there were several studies published that demonstrated masks do little to protect health care workers, but as noted above it has become a political virtue signal devoid of any actual data.
The anecdotal evidence does not bear it out either. I admit it is hard to quantify mask wearing, but mortality has been higher in states and cities that would seem to be more pro-mask vs. those that would seem to be more anti-mask.

I was just thinking. Imagine if Biden mentioned during a press conference that masks don't work and he's not wearing them again. The MSM would be so confused

Its almost like people don't know carrying a unsanitary piece of cloth (snot rag) everywhere isn't going to work.
The N95 masks could be helpful, if one replaced it after every use but even that would be minimum as all the particles are still on the outside of the mask, clothing, body, etc. Than people transport that to other locations.
The virus's transmission rate is so high that the CDC released information that if everyone went into 100% complete quarantine, not lock downs... the virus would still transmit. A quarantine is, nobody in, nobody out.
If people really wanted to slow down transmission, life has to come to a complete stop... decontamination every step they make.

Have large live oaks in my yard. Every winter/early spring they drop a huge green pollen dust bomb. It's the only reason I had N95 masks on hand in March 2020. Even with those I'll get green boogies.
