I am not sure what to make of the data and relatively low cases the last two days. I thought we would get a data dump after the low case numbers from Labor Day. It’s good we are not but the testing is also relatively low. I find that odd given that colleges are testing like crazy. Also, hospitalizations have flattened the last 5 days and I hope that breaks down again.

My friend is a nuclear facility manager who works 72 hour shifts. He gets tested about three or four times a week.

Data during the holiday weeks is totally for shite, makes comparing WoW impossible and the data more choppy. It'll settle back into normal pattern next week. Deaths were an expected make up from Sunday and Monday's depressed numbers.
Cases under investigation are now being included in CTP's hospitalization figures as well, so the hospitalization data is more volatile day to day than it was a few weeks ago.

When trends start to emerge, change how the data is categorized. Try to keep everyone in a fog.

God this basically defines this whole process. Huge props to Chrome for all the tracking, but the baseline data collection, categorization, and retention has been such a cluster frick by the states, even ignoring the inconsistencies from state to state.
The CDC creating its own test vs the WHO test, which as far as I know has been the global standard, and the possibility raised in the NYT that the CDCs approved test is too sensitive even makes comparing other countries to the US hard too. Like, I've known that comparing country to country stats for other types of data is generally a crap shoot given the varying standards and metrics used, but Christ.

Seems like anything that can be done to inflate counts has been done. Death harvesting, tests of questionable accuracy / usefulness, hospitalization reporting inconsistencies then changing the definition of hospitalizations after the big bump subsides, etc. A clusterfrick of monumental proportions.
Throw in a blood hungry media dying to report any sort of bump, no matter the reason or story behind it, and here you are.
The quest for "perfect" data, and I use perfect loosely based on a non-traditional definition, has outweighed the quest for accurate data.

Yup exactly. I typed that post out right after reading the below article with some Fauci quotes from this morning, where he shot down any sort of positive thoughts that this might be ebbing (and it is, by a lot).

Note that he said with fall coming people would be spending more time indoors...and that’s not good with a respiratory airborne virus. Funny, in March and April, he was begging people to stay indoors to keep from getting it. So which is it Fauci?
