D-Day is an example of America's 'strong relationship with government of Germany'

A State Department spokeswoman has been ridiculed for citing the D-Day invasion as an example of America’s “very strong relationship” with Germany.
“We have a very strong relationship with the government of Germany,” Heather Nauert said.
“Looking back in the history books, today is the 71st anniversary of the speech that announced the Marshall Plan. Tomorrow is the anniversary of the D-Day invasion. We obviously have a very long history with the government of Germany, and we have a strong relationship with the government of Germany.”

Doesn't equal this. I'll admit, it's awkward to reference D-Day here, but there's no reason to willfully misinterpret the statement.

When did Cameron Diaz become a spokeswoman?

Right, basically saying we have a lot of history with Germany, of course, both good and bad....

This is the kind of shite that some conservative sites would have run with under Obama but most in media would go "oh we knew what they were saying."
When it's Trump, it'll be mainstream newspapers.
Double standard aside, it's a pretty clunky statement, it's just not very important.

State is technically correct.
We also have a strong relationship with Japan due to Pearl Harbor.
Both of which are related to us kicking the everloving shite out of them and installing new governments.

How she brought the D-Day anniversary into that statement is rather confusing. However, she is going to be highly ridiculed because she used to be a Fox News anchor. The MSM will be highly critical due to this fact.

The damage from Tillerson's gutting of the State Department is ongoing. The US Ambassador to Germany is an embarrassment and this spokesperson is a crying shame.

>We invade them
>Then we give them shittons of money
State Dept conclusion: We have a strong relationship with them!

If the summary of the DoS is that giving money to a country means we have a strong relationship with them, maybe it's time to just get rid of the whole department. They're completely detached from any rational thought in international relations.

I love how this administration treats a conquered nation.

Think of it as a reminder of what can happen if they get too big for their britches again.

how is it awkward? she states

and
quote:

the statement encompasses both aspects of her point. We do have a long history with Germany, including the Normandy invasion of WW2 and we have a very strong relationship with Germany thanks in part to the Marshall Plan that rebuilt Germany after we reduced it to rubble. And you know what? Germany doesn't really have any room to comment on this matter lest we remind them of the millions of deaths they are responsible for. They may want to forget that part of their history, but we sure as frick haven't forgotten.

Sometimes I wonder whether we fricked up by rebuilding their country. Especially in times like these, when they try and use Trump as a geopolitical wedge for more global influence.
Why don't they shut the hell up and do what we say with humility and a smile, like Japan? Did we nuke the wrong country?

Quite a different government of Germany.
Pershing killed a bunch of krauts in 1918 as well.
As a matter of fact, George Washington crossed the Delaware River in the winter to go to New Jersey and kill a bunch of krauts.
While we have a long history of killing Germans, we have never been at war with the current government of Germany, which was sort of the implication of the quote.
