Denied HOF purely for his political beliefs. What a sham the HOF has become. No Schilling, no Rose, no credibility. Time to take the voting away from the writers.

Schilling retired with the greatest strikeout-to-walk rate since the mound distance was set in the 19th century. He once struck out more than 300 batters with fewer walks (33) than starts (35). He is one of only four pitchers to strike out 300 batters in a season three times since 1900. The others are Randy Johnson, Nolan Ryan and Sandy Koufax.

frick the voters for the HOF.

Not Schilling.

He's being left out because he's an a-hole and a mouthy conservative.

Schilling was never associated with steroids. So if anything that should give him more credibility having pitched through the steroid era clean.

I think the mouthy conservative is little if anything to do with it. He’s always been a jerk to writers and that has hurt him. Hell, he got close last year and got pissed and said to take his name off the ballot and he would wait for the Modern Players Committee to decide as he respects their opinion. Basically, he pissed the writers off. You can argue that’s dumb or whatever but angry jerks have a hard time getting in if they aren’t all time greats. Schilling is not that.

3.46 era, no Cy Youngs, 216 wins doesn't really scream Hall of Fame.

Of the 5 retire players with numbers most similar to him, Kevin Brown, Bob Welch, Tim Hudson, Orel Hershiser, Freddie Fitzsimmons, none are in the Hall.

Do it. Create a Go Fund Me account. It's start small but may catch on.

If Schilling played the happy talk game, didn't express conservative opinions and therefore remained on ESPN's Baseball Tonight, perhaps shed a tear over George Floyd's death, his being a jerk would mean little and he'd have been voted in.

If I'm not mistaken, his mouthing off about having his name removed from the ballot was after he had been sunk by his politics, and in fact was in response to that.

He should’ve cried like Kirk Herbstreit and apologized like drew brees.

Seriously.

That’s the only way.

Think how little credibility the baseball HOF has when every eligible player with 3000 (except Palmiero) or more hits is in, but one of the two players with more than 4000 hits (and, in fact, has the most), isn't even eligible.

(ETA: And A Rod is about to go in this year, Beltre likely in 2024 and Suzuki the year after. Pujols is still playing and will go first ballot when eligible, so that will leave only Charlie Hustle and Palmiero out of the HOF with greater than 3k hits. I do suspect the veterans committee will put Palmiero - and Bonds - in at some point.)

Not as glaringly dumb as the Rock Hall of Fame, but what is?

3000 Ks

3 seasons with 300 Ks or more

3 World Series and a WS MVP.

He was clutch on October, and at times dominant.

This. It is purely because of his outspoken political views and nothing else. It is a greater travesty than Pete Rose being denied and that is saying a lot.

That's been a bit of an eye opener for me over the last five years or so ... how ridiculously bent/liberal sports media is. I knew their employers were liberal, but not the reporters/commentators themselves.

If that’s your metric, you need to go remove tons of pitchers from the HOF.

He ranks 26th in WAR for pitchers ALL TIME! That’s better than 51 pitchers that are in the HOF now!

The 25 pitchers above him in WAR… EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM IS IN THE HOF!,

Yeah, he was screwed because liberal sportswriters are big pussies that get their feelings hurt.
