Cruz is playing chess and Trump is playing tic tac toe
quote:

Armed with newfound, if tepid, support from unlikely sources over the past few weeks, Ted Cruz has touted himself as a Republican uniter whose campaign represents a broad and ideologically diverse spectrum of the party.

But with the GOP aiming for a contested convention in July, there are mixed signals as to whether Cruz is the consensus choice in that scenario or simply the party’s vehicle to Cleveland, only to be ditched later.

While Donald Trump still has a viable path to securing the 1,237 delegates needed to clinch the nomination, a loss to Cruz in Wisconsin next week would make his road longer and rockier. For his part, the Texas senator has shown particular savvy when it comes to delegate strategy, as evidenced by his campaign’s success in scooping up “free agent” delegates in Louisiana last week, catching the Trump team off guard.

quote:

But the operation will have to contend with Cruz’s proven infrastructure. The Texas lawmaker’s ability to acquire additional delegates in Louisiana at the state party’s convention after the primary demonstrated his prowess. Trump had won the state, but the campaign didn’t account for rules that freed up delegates previously allocated to candidates who had dropped out. Trump threatened to sue, even though Cruz simply followed the rules. The real estate mogul then hired veteran GOP operative Paul Manafort to run his delegate effort, seen as an admission of the Louisiana mistake and the prospect of a contested convention.

There are similar opportunities to pick up delegates, including in state conventions in North Dakota this weekend and in Colorado next week. Cruz is planning to attend both in person, while his rivals are sending surrogates. The senator's plan underscores a dedication to the delegate hunt and foreshadows his capabilities at the convention.

Speaking of which, why hasn't Ted threatened to sue the National Enquirer for their purportedly false story?

I voted for Cruz in the Georgia primary but that is some delusional thinking IMHO based on how I believe Cruz is perceived nationally. I am fully prepared for whoever the Pubs nominate to lose in the national election. Unfortunately our nation is trending strongly liberal progressive and Dems are now associated with positive progress no matter who they nominate. And yes, I believe the Pubs will lose even if by some miracle Bernie gets the nomination. Translation: the majority of our nation is ready to embrace Socialism.

Debates and knowing the political machinery are his strong points.

Trump's is mastery of social media and appeal to that sector of the American working class that enjoys the pride of earning their money.

Apart from Cruz obvious competence and his proven record of rock solid constitutional conservatism, his strategic prowess is another talent that any great leader must possess.

All great leaders in history have had the ability to out-think any opposition.

Because of the "actual malice" standard in First Amendment law. Cruz is a "public figure," and so discussions about him are a matter of public concern, and thus to win in a defamation claim, Cruz has to prove the defendant acted with "actual malice."

In the vast majority of these cases, the Enquirer has some sort of plausibly-credible source for the allegation, and so will be able to successfully defend against the allegation they acted with "actual malice."

1. Cruz can and will beat Clinton. Cruz vs Clinton will have record low voter turnout which is good for the GOP and Cruz will be able to unite most of the GOP. The trumptards and the Sandersscum will fall in line with their patry's candidate or stay home. Cruz has a better chance of winning the Trumptards over than Clinton does of winning the Sandersscum over.

2. Bernie is not getting the nomination. Clinton is not going to be indicted, even though she should be, and the DNC knows that Sanders's plans won't stay popular when the GOP brings both barrels against him. If by some miracle Clinton is indicted expect to see a Biden/Warren ticket come out of the dems convention.

3. WTF are you rambling about? The country is not ready to turn socialist, hell event he democrats are not ready to turn socialist. Democratic primary turnout is similar to '00 and '04 and nothing close to '08. That is a good sign the country is not embracing socialism. Clinton has the delegate lead for the dems of superdelegates, and 2.5million more democrats have voted for her. So not even the democrats want socialism. You don't have to worry about because Sanders would lose to any GOP candidate worse than Dukakis lost to Bush in '88.

Cruz is doing what the GOPe should have done in the fall. He hits Trump and then backs off, and lets Trump do more self-inflicted damage. If a brokered convention occurs, Cruz and Trump will not let the GOP remove rule 40, and that will leave it as Cruz vs Trump on the 2nd ballot, and Trump has no chance of winning that.

Team Cruz up with Rob Portman, Nikki Haley, or my personal favorite Susana Martinez and the GOP has a winning combo.

You can correct me if I'm wrong but I think that is what Trump wants to change so it will be easier for public figures to win libel and slander lawsuits.

Cruz should drop out and help Trump win the presidency so that Cruz can sue the NE and win. Of course, that is assuming what the NE printed isn't the truth.

From my experience (running campaigns in Iowa for 3 presidential cycles), it is better to let a story like that peter out than to give it legs of a law suit.

Bringing a suit gives the false story more legitimacy than answer a few questions and moving on. If there is a suit it takes resources and time better spent on the real goal plus discovery would be messy...

Cruz will never win any of the liberal Northeastern states or West coast states.

At least Trump has a chance to win some of those states as well as the traditional Conservative states if the dumb fricks in the Republican Party who are saying they won't vote for Trump swallow their pride and vote for him.

Trump 2016!
