It’s at worst a mildly worse version of the flu. People need to get a grip and quit talking about it so much.

This isn’t a sci-fi fantasy virus like you see in World War Z. The United States has the best healthcare in the world and it’s going to be largely forgotten about when the summer months approach, just as the flu virus does every year.

It’s more dangerous than the flu but it is NOT something you need to worry about at this point

The numbers out of south Cornea are reassuring. Less than 1% fatality/critical rate

I think we should start 100 more threads comparing the flu death to COVID19 deaths. It hasn't been mentioned enough in every single thread about this virus.

Its getting ridiculous

We should be comparing it to a single boat lost off the coast of Italy

A single shooting in Baltimore

A single protest in Iran

Events that have killed far more people within a single hour than have been killed by a virus for more than two months

That world meter estimates we only have 48 years of oil left and 162 years of natural gas left.

Pelosi referred to it as a "deadly" disease today.

Technically, she is correct in that people have died from it.

However, that is a loaded statement intended to incite anxiety and panic.

I think a problem that we have is: Can we trust The Chinese numbers?
If their numbers are true, why did they overreact to such a scale?
I am starting to wonder, if their overreaction, might not have been a plan to panic the rest of the world.

and 6.7 MILLION babies killed.

Seems to me, we are focusing on the wrong thing.

But.. that's not what this thread is about.

The totals of 2 different strains of the flu compared to 1 strain of COVID-19

The flu has been around for longer than we know (it was first isolated in the 1930's), that means the flu had permeated the world well before COVID-19 ever came into existence.

Comparing it to the flu at this point is like adding the together the entire season's stats of two quarterbacks then comparing those to the stats of a single quarterback who played only a single game then saying "he's not nearly as good as the other two".

No, it's not going to be The Stand. As another poster mentioned, if anything it may be a slightly worse flu (or it maybe slightly better). The point right now is we simply don't know what it will be (other than knowing it's not going to end civilization as we know it, regardless of the stock market).

It COULD turn out like the 1918 Spanish Flu.

Just sayin'.

It won't, but I'm surprised nobodies gone there yet with their comparisons.

Don't waste your money on surgical masks. Only a N-95 mask is thick enough to protect you and that is only if you fit it appropriately.

The death rate is uncomfortably high. You don't want to contract it. I know that much

Data is currently insufficient.

At this time, the only info we have is from communist China and from the very sick in countries like Italy.

We don’t have info in regards to the number of asymptomatic carriers or those with minimal symptoms.

The reason we have such accurate numbers in regards to influenza is because we test 100s of millions yearly.

We are building positions based on a few hundred of the sickest individuals out there, or, in the case of the cruise liner, the very old.

The number will trend downward as we test more of the less sick patients, like we do the flu.

A good example is SK.

The rate there is currently around .7-.8%, and was trending downwards.

It may go up, but I doubt it.

It’s nothing like the 1918 H1N1 flu virus. It’s a mild infection in 80% of cases. It’s a serious infection for anyone with a compromised immune system, meaning chronically ill people and those of advanced age.

Because it’s novel to the human population, it will circumnavigate the earth and cause a lot of misery. The CDC has already advised Americans that this will happen. So, preparations will primarily center on the portion of the population that is most vulnerable. If you’re healthy, you probably don’t have anything to worry about other than potentially spreading it to a sickly loved one. If it doesn’t mutate from its present form, that is.

I've read the science. And complications have happened in some healthy people. I'm not saying its Captain Trips. But theres definitely reason to be concerned about fatalities and the economy. Not sure what to tell you...
