re: Could today's Americans build the Hoover Dam in four years?
Have they opened up the tours down into the dam again? Went down through the dam, generation and spillways some 35 years ago.... really pretty cool to see it all....guess they closed it off to public after 9/11 ??

I work in construction management. Throw enough money at it and it will happen.

Construction, offshore, oil patch, manufacturing, mining, etc. are all filled with young people busting their arse to make money. It's always funny to hear people generalize an entire generation of people based on one stereotype.

No tours the day we were there. Not sure if that's the norm or not. Security is heavy getting near the damn. We had to pass a check point with armed police and dogs. Frankly, I was happy to see how seriously they were taking the possibility of a terrorist attack.

Then again there’s a bunch of dead bodies forever buried in the cement of that dam.

Once the cement began pouring on the dam, it could not stop. It was literally poured 24/7 until it was complete. If someone fell into the cement, they could not rescued because stopping the flow of cement would have ruined the dam structurally.

Only reason that thing got built in 4 years is because they didn't have OSHA. Many people died building that thing and conditions were dangerous.

There would be some endangered sand tick that would halt construction for 14 years.

And way too much red tape and regulation. Isn't the Hoover dam the tomb of dozens of workers who perished due to unsafe working conditions?

tangentially, I recommend reading the history of digging the Panama canal. Talk about hell on earth.

What an absurd old white guy "get off my lawn" thread. Today's Americans are, if anything, even better than yesteryear's imagined ones. Doesn't anyone ever get tired of being a walking cliche on this shit?

And don't forget about the EPA. There's no telling what kind of mold, fungi, worm, rat or pigeon was displaced because of the dam's construction.

Funny that everyone keeps saying this, as the entire project was - gasp - nothing more than BIG GOVERNMENT hard at work.

That seems like a racist post.

For example, what if I replied to you, "What an absurd old black guy remark."?

Under current soft conditions and infection of liberals, no.

In an environment of national survival, where it would be acceptable to beat the shite out of and discard pussified liberals and shirkers, yes the country still has it in their soul.

Here’s another comparison, not related too much, but same point.

Lol at the psuedo-wanna-be-boomer generation trying to throw shade on us Millenials. With the technological advancements we have made in construction and automation, they could probably complete this project in half the time if not less.

Who is running the biggest companies in the world right now? Who has created this technological Renaissance we all are experiencing and making our lives easier and better everyday? Whats even funnier is that most of the people talking shite about millennials are doing it on their couch from their iphone, LOL! Pretty neat communication technology there.
