Could today's Americans build the Hoover Dam in four years?

My wife and I were on vacation recently, travelling through Arizona and Nevada. We spent half a day at the Hoover Dam. The scope and scale of the project and the engineering is breathtaking. I was shocked to read that the dam was built in just 4 years. When I read that I thought to myself, no way today's Americans could do that in 4 years. Hell, it took a team of "professionals" almost half a year just to remodel my kitchen last year. Even with our advanced technology we're too soft, and there's too much red tape.
Here's to the spirit of America that once built the greatest dam in the world in just 4 years.
The Nevada side of the dam
The Arizona side of the dam

absolutely could not. skinny jeans in the desert is rough, add in the lack of a good wifi signal.

No. The small population of the sightless albino skink would kill the whole thing.

I was a dam builder
Across the river deep and wide
Where steel and water did collide
A place called Boulder on the wild Colorado
I slipped and fell into the wet concrete below
They buried me in that great tomb that knows no sound
But I am still around
I'll always be around and around and around and around and around

One thing I find amazing is they temporarily rerouted the Colorado River to build the dam.

Hell, it takes 4 years to get past all the flakes and their regulations.

OSHA and other regulations killed any chance of us viably constructing engineering marvels like that ever again without bankrupting the country.
Then again there’s a bunch of dead bodies forever buried in the cement of that dam. Can’t have your cake and eat it too, and it appears we have made our choice.

The environmental studies would take at least 10 years before a single clump of dirt was moved.

And passing the budget for it would take another 10.

One thing is for sure: a mere 50 years after the fact, we couldn’t put a man on the moon using a team of guys with slide rules.
Not all progress is necessarily positive.

It’s not that special. It doesn’t even have a Dam bait shop

Ha, we could build it AND throw a football over it

Eh, it only took about 5.5 years* to build the bridge (Feb 2005-Oct 2010), which was at least as challenging logistically as the dam.
*Of course that was after the spent 4 years debating the best route, another 2 years of design work, and 2 more building the approaches from either side before work on the actual bridge began.

Hell no. With all the bloated regulations and hoops put in the way by the government it takes years to build a few miles of roadway, much less a dam.

I've been studying those photos for a little while and I still can't figure out an appropriate spot for the safe space.

Young people these days just don't know a thing about hard work!
