Timing was likely a coincidence. It's more likely an attempt to intimidate potential dissenters.

20 years ago, if you ran for office you'd have to prepare for your opponents digging up legitimate dirt on you.

Now you can't even express a contrary opinion as a private citizen without being subjected to false and defamatory attacks.

The encounter between the boys and the Indian became more newsworthy because of the BuzzFeed embarrassment.

If the BuzzFeed story was gaining traction we would never have seen this other story mentioned.
