Could Jonestown ever happen again?
Could a remote commune under a totalitarian dictator ever be established with Progressive Marxists from the United States or other developed country?

Would modern information technology and communication enable something like that or undermine it before it got started?

Of course it can happen again. There will always be lost and vulnerable people and there will always be those looking to exploit that.

Definitely. Most of the useful idiots that believe what's on CNN and MSNBC would fall right in line.

It will absolutely happen again in some form. Just like Waco, the question is, what and how does government respond to this? At what part of this is freedom to gather (or religion) infringed upon by government? Another big government vs freedom slippery slope argument.

We discovered in the last thread about Jonestown that it was Flavoraid not Koolaid.

Sure it can happen again.

I just don't get how they got everyone to do it at the same time. Surely it would be under duress, but the way they are all laid out doesn't make much sense to me.

The people there believed strongly enough in communism to live there without access to modern conveniences. They clearly believed in it enough to poison children under direction of a totalitarian dictator.

I think the kind of person in BLM and Antifa organizations could easily find themselves involved in this kind of cult.

Easily and technology could easily facilitate that.

The Heaven's Gate cult had their own website (primitive for its time but they had one).

In fact, this may surprise you, the website is still active and there are people who monitor it and answer questions people may have about the group.

Some where just true believers. Others were forced at gunpoint. The parents and other adults actually gave it to the children via syringe (that part makes me want to throw up!).

Nevertheless, they had planned for that type of suicide before. On a few occasions they brought out the vat of kool aid, told everyone it had poison in it and made them drink it. Only after did they tell them the drink did not contain poison, but they wanted to make sure they were willing to take it if/when the time came.

Yeah, Howard Schultz could set up a commune in the middle of prime Columbia coffee groves and promise that those who follow him will get quad espressos for 10 cents a cup for eternity.

The closest we have come to another Jonestown was at the Javits Convention Center on November 8, 2016.
